the thought had occurred to me.

it makes sense. remove the 200 iron weight and have your battery bank in the back. the electric motor would be an easy install .

and with no power steering, power breaks, a/c etc… real simple install.

Kool idea... but cost is still a little high for my wallet. Did a little research on doing this to one of my vans last year and I was looking at around $6,000 + taxes to do it up right. And a lttle bit more for the gas generator if I wanted to add that as well, just in case I run out of juice. For now I will stick with the V-8 and look at this idea down the road. Still a great idea, and eventually we may have to do that.

Its still not a good solution though is it. They reckon there is only enough lithium on the planet to make batteries for 1.5 million cars, which is tiny compared to the 600 million plus cars that are on the road today. Unless they find better technology, lithium will replace oil as the thing to start wars over.

Just wait until some of these Electric car owners have to replace the entire battery packs in these cars.Bet they will be back to gas powered vehicles. Maybe some one will just invent a "perpetual motion" machine to power our cars . OH !! Thats right , I forgot it was the "Flintstones" affraid

I used to own and run a three bay garage in the early 80's converting vehicles to propane, duel fuel propane/gasoline, and or natural gas and duel fuel Natural gas/gsoline.

There is a local co-operative cooking oil service station about 2 hours from me. (its not as cheep as you might hope)

Gasoline is almost $5 a gallon here and has been way more then you guys pay for the longest time. That expence has made it fesable to expirement with various alternate fuels and this has been going on in Canada for over 40 years including electric vehicles. There is a company about 10 miles from me that converts any vehicle to electric and has been doing so for about 25 years. There are Islands around here that are electric vehicles only, no fuel burning vehicles aloud! since forever.

What television and your governments are desplaying as "great new ideas" like ethinol from corn has been around for a long time, tryed, tested and found not to be afordable in the end, or just plain useless.

By far the biggest problem with any fuel sorce is "where do I get it ; who and how much do I have to pay for it." The United States is only recently realising the pitfals of being dependant on others for fuel and the problems caused by paying bilions to tirants for their oil.

Never mind all the BS about environmental this or that. It has been my life expirience that no matter whos talking environmental issuse when it comes to paying for it "how much?" always overrules the "environment"

Whats different about the elecric truck of Greg Willams in Vancouver. He recharges it with a wind generating electrical source which when not being used is selling electrical power back to the hydro company. Recent changes to Canada's laws around electrical power are now making it posible for the home owner to have "micro generating stations" that are connected to the grid and sell electrical power back to the electric company reducing your electric bill and in some cases erning income. You can do it by wind, solar or hydro or however you like. Some people have solar set ups that sell power to their niebours.

This "None dependancy on others" for power is whats going to change everything in the future.
Since generating of electrical power is now what the private individual can do at home, this is going to make electric vehicles dominate private transport.

There won't be wars over lithium, not that long ago it was lead acid then nicad and today lithium. Technology is advancing so fast a cheep form of electrical storage will be the next development. Hell you can get electricity from an orange and two nails. The issue is where do you get the power source. You won't be going to war to control the other guys wind mills or solar pannels.

Look to the future: The second generation "elecrovan" is on its way.
