Who has an Early that they can jump in tomorrow and make a 500 mile roundtrip. I'm not bragging that I could, really I'm not. I'm just wondering how many of the people posting here actually can, tomorrow (gotta' give ya' time to check the oil and tire pressures!). Also, to keep the clutter of this thread down, if you don't an Early that qualifies please don't reply. It'll be interesting to see how long this thread gets.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
As you know my truck doesn't see the miles that your truck does. With the gear I have it's hard to run with the pack. I can only run about 55-60 mph right now. About 200 miles one way is my longest haul. I have a lot of confidence in it's ability. It's proven it's self to be dependable. I'm still not going on the Powertour!! LOL.

This is how my truck see's the country. We take it with us on trips. Once we get there I use it for sightseeing and such. My wife needs a bigger house than Martha.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
Well first off this thread needs to be moved to the correct category and out of E vans for sale. Secondly I would hate to have to fork out the cash to drive my pro street pickup on a long trip but it no doubt could make it. It gets about 8MPG. My 66 Falcon could do it no problem if I changed the master cylinder tonight or at least brought along some extra brake fluid. Hopefully I ll be able to add another van to his list in the next year.

I'm pretty sure my window van could do 500miles. Been to G's Bakers meet twice & that's 300 miles round trip for me.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
500 miles should be no problem with the 63 8 door. So far 3600 miles in one round trip (RI to AR twice), 1300 miles (RI to the Van Nats in Ohio this summer) ,weekly runs of 800 miles (RI to Ellsworth Maine) and several trips 800 miles each (RI to Carlisle PA). About 65-70 MPH most of the time 21 MPG. 9500 miles since mid May this year over 50,000 miles on it since I put it on the road in 2006.

Living in Montana it's a 130 mile round trip just to the next town. 500 is just a good start for the Phugley truck.

Mine is running really well at the moment, although the current fuel prices at the moment in the UK are ridiculous....

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
Mine could do it
I'd feel better about it after I get the trans rebuilt though. No real problems with the trans but it makes a little noise at speed, could probably use a bearing kit.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
i probably could, but not anxiuos to find out. took it to nats and lost a u-joint going and tranny coming back. 130 miles each way. fixed or upgraded lots of stuff since but motor is only pushing 20 psi oil and drops near zero at idle so i try to stay within an hour of house.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
Wife and I left Friday afternoon for the weekend at the Daytona Beach Dream Cruise. Great weekend at the show. Took van to beach at Ponce Inlet on a side trip. On Sunday at The Blue Grotto I won a crisp $100.00 bill as a door prize. Van ran like a champ on the 372 mile run. We sure recieved a lot of attention from young and older where ever it was parked. Judy makes a great spokes womwan for these vans.
We may even have a new vanner in the works.

Re: Let's take a trip in our Early
I guess it could do it, but with the small rear-end it's pretty slow and loud. My long runs at this point are to the Econoline-central in Warwick RI to visit Fred. I'd need to upgrade the rear-end and really go through the front suspension before I'd try Carlisle or something. But the brakes are good...well you know, good for 50 year old brakes.
