Re: Do Headers always Leak ????
I always used either copper gaskets or "metal weave" gaskets and never had a problem with them leaking at the head. Tighten them up, then tighten them again about once a week for a month or so (just a little) to compensate for gasket compression and they tend to last a good long time.
I plan on using them again on my next engine build and will probably use aircraft wire on the bolt heads.

Re: Do Headers always Leak ????
[i]The hedders will leak -usually because the owners never take time to tighten the bolts up - this is due to shrinkage of the gasket due to heat. This is an on going problem & must be checked- there are many different gasket types also = as mentioned above - also some different types of headder bolts - and there are locking types- Id suggest emailing the builder of your specific brand headders & asking them about the problem & what they suggest for a fix?? also =if you have added some lock washers on the headder bolts =take them off as heat will make the locks not work due to heat - and then you will have the bolts loosen & blow out the gaskets = Happy Vannin

You normally have to tighten them 3-4 times.

I use stock OEM manifold gaskets with headers..........no leaks.
