At one time or another my 64s bumper was bent in a accident or something. The way its bent actually looks as if it snagged something going in reverse because its bent out. Anyone have any bright ideas. Put it on the ground and jump on it, . May have to take it to a machine shop or soemthing.

Re: Bent bumper
if it looks snagged in reverse, it was probalby hooked to to either tow or be towed.
take it off, put it on the ground and use a hammer to slowly bring it back to where it was. or look around for a bumper restoration service, they straighten and rechrome

Re: Bent bumper
Ray,
One of the econo guys here on the Island had one bent out that way and had actually torn the metal. He came over asking your same question. We bumped it up against a big oak tree here in the yard and pushed it back into place and welded it while against the tree. When we backed up the van it looked pretty good. Finished welding the inside and smoothed out the outside with a grinder, shot it with some new paint and he was tickled pink!!!
(Disclaimer: No tickling or anything Pink was involved)

Re: Bent bumper
From experience, every hammer strike makes a small dent.Use a piece of wood and hit that with a hammer to spread out the force. A good chrome shop can fix it during the rechrome process, normally part of the process with old bumpers, but some places charge extra.

Re: Bent bumper
I agree with Tim Let the chrome shop repair it. They have all of the correct tools.

Protect the tree with plywood or something. If you tear the bark, it may never grow back right.

Re: Bent bumper
Took the bumper off yesterday, its bent a heck of a lot more than it looked on the van. Im going to take it in to a shop and have them take care of it. May even have them powder coat it in black.
