Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Digz, are you possibly thinking of putting a large Chevy bow tie down there?

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Got the metal welded in and started to glas it. There is some structural support behind all this , so I am going to wait on the lighting I had in mind until I find what I want. It will be in primer for some time so there's no rush.
This still very rough, but instead of 1/2" of plastic I have a couple thin coats of duraglass to base on.
Biggest object of this was to get the body line back and away from the totally flat look. It's hard to see but there is a little roll to the bottom now. The reason for all the pieces is there is supposed to be a little curve across the front, not much but some. I couldn't have done it with a single chunk very well. It sounds as if the weather is finally going to break in my favor so real work will be taking over for a while. Was 17* here this morning...

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Nice Piece of Work Digz. Curves nicely!
We got that chill this morning too in Mass. Yesterday it hit 60 Degrees and I had the A/C going on the way home. This morning we got snow flurries. Hopefully we'll climb back up again because a good part of the snow in the yard melted away yesterday. I want the rest of it gone SOON!

I'm really liking the artwork on that motor, Digz! Looks like you're well on your way to getting the doghouse functioning the way you want too. Nice piece of work on both!

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
im looking to to an airbag helper spring set up in the front of my 69 much like the one you have pictured in you photo gallery. was this a kit of some sort? if so, do you remember what brand and which kit? it would save me a lot of time having somethign to work with instead of having to fab all my brackets.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
This setup was on it when I got it. I believe most all of it came from Ride Tech/Air Ride Technologies. www.ridetech.com
If you are going to use bags as helpers I would look into the convoluted bags. The compressed height can be much shorter and may fit between spring and frame, not eating up space between the frame rails as these do. My set up relies on the bags for almost all of the suspension. The springs pretty much just keep the axle in place.
Here is another site to browse through.

I haven't used this site but it is quite informative.
I should add I have not had this "On the road" yet so I have no idea on what the handling will be like.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
my suspension will rely mostly on the bags aswell. the previous owner took leafs out of the front spring packs to lower the front but its sitting right on the bump stops! i love the stance but it needs to be driveable. i have been in contact with airlift but they dont have a direct kit for early g-vans. i just picked up this 69 108 and have been doing a lot of research. so far yours is the only one that has come close to what i am looking to do with it.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
This one will also bend the 2 remaining springs backwards if you let it all the way down. Didn't the 2nd gens only have 2 leafs to start with?
It still doesnt put it in the weeds, might get a safe 6" drop out of it. Just sitting there it is pretty rocky rolly on the bags. Because I have a bunch of stuff in the way I reworked the swaybar hopefully to get some stability back. I'm still on a learning curve with it myself. I figured worse case scenario I stuff the leafs back in it.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
thats my thinking aswell. i just ordered bags and weld on brackets for front and rear. going to try an underframe/over leaf set up up front. working with really limited space due to the stearing setup... the weight of my 350 doesnt help the springs either im sure

Digz, with the van up on jack stands like that, it looks like it's going a 100mph standing still!!! I think most of us have Garage Envy. Doghouse is really coming along now. Nice piece of work.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
That's my bros 74 cuda. He has had it for a long time. Has all the parts but life and family keep him busy . That and he put that 59 Dodge PU together in the meantime.
I'm planning on making the Natz, but we'll see,. Things are starting out tighter here than I had hoped this season.
