Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Just Holes and Dreams in the 66,,LOL...So far it has worked out that what I have built for it ,is easily transferred to the 64, and it's also great to have another to use as a reference. I switched them around today and pulled the RA out of the 64. Retrieved the leafs from storage ( the lowering springs wont bolt up to the old hangers )Hopefully tomorrow I can get the Jag RA out from under the 66 and slap the solid axle under that. I have to do some reading to figure out how to remove the fittings on the air bags, new stuff to me!!

Joe usually on those air bag fitings are pretty simple. Most are just push the air line in alittle and push the clip towards the fitting and it should release. Bob

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
LOL Yeah Chris, I think with all the bracketry to remove and the fun of the bags it was confusing me some ! Anyway spent the entire day on this today.
Got the 10 bolt in the 66, it's actually a 2nd gen RA same as what was in this to start with, so I just got the front bolts in and didnt bother trying to put the shackles in.
I put the Jag RA on the rottisserie to make it easier to work with ( and move around, it's quite heavy now). I have to put the front stabilizers on yet and then I will turn it around to do the bags and shocks.
I had some time earlier to make the bushing barrels for the stabilizers and trailing arms.
the 66 is all cleaned out and ready to get out of the shop for now.
Next besides getting the RA more ready is to remove the pads and shock mounts those guys welded in ( and man did they ever overkill that,, that stuff is in there way good !!)
A couple things I learned today, One how to get those airlines off, easy once ya read the directions! and 2 is ya have to burn off that chassis stuff to run a nut back off if its on the threads ! All in all a good day.
I see my AM and Pm must be messed up on my camera ! lol

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Im just fortunate to be able to work on the vans at our shop. Just have to leave room for the big stuff and My bros truck. Helps keep stuff fresh in my head also. I still have the habit of having to much going on at once tho and get a little lost once in awhile.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
The hard part took all of the morning. Cleaning weld off the frame.
See ! I left those front spring hangers there for a reason..LOL
Got it square as I could and drilled some holes. Will have to drop it one more time at least to bush them.
Hooked the air lines back up to put it thru its motions.
Down
All Up
All Down
My OOPS!!
Didn't have the shock bolts tight and it let it twist a little, I can see it wouldn't hurt to put a couple little braces there somewhere. I will be turning this into a 2 circiut system on the bags tho instead of the 4 ,, it's a little wierd acting on this IRS compared to the solid RA. Still alot to learn about this air stuff for light vehichles. And I will probably have to add a swaybar. Was a good day.

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
I think so to Chris. Once I get the bulk of this drive train and suspension nailed down I'll feel comfortable moving on to the sheet metal stuff. Funny I didnt notice this quicker, but last week I realized it had a counter wieght in it ! Must be a 64 thing?
Debating on whether to leave it or not seeing as I added better than 200# to the sprung wieght with the RA assembly. I'd have to fab up or rob some of those sheetmetal rear tank brackets if I take it out. No big deal either way but this thing isnt going to be a lightwieght when its done ,,LOL

Re: Gettin' Stoopid 66G
Not going gang busters but still pluggin' away. Relocating the air system to the rear to free up that real estate under the floor by the battery. Figuring on an aux batt. and possibly some of the electrical there.
I have a bracket made that holds the controls next to the tank, but the paint wasnt tuff enough yet to play with. Will be welding in some threaded holes and using studs to hold it all down.
