Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
2 questions; 1 Is that spare tire hard to remove? Looks awful tight under there.
2 How long have you had that Craftsman power/pak/jump starteer? Mine only lasted 2 years and it was junk. WOuld love to get input on people that have these and how long they last, what brands, etc.

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
I have had that spare tire inside and on the rear door for years,,,,,and I have only had 3 flats in 1/2 a million miles,,,,,,so I would rather drop the drive shaft to get to that tire than have it in my way. I got a Cadillac toy spare that that fits that I could take with also. I still plan on taking my motorhome to the Arizona Swap Meet next month and my on my trip to Chicago,,,,,It's REALLY nice to have all the comforts of home while on the road. It's just that my van has been a lot of places over the years and its just like I would like to revisit those places again in the van. I like to go back to the places I where I have been in my van since the 1970's and think,,,, what a long, strange trip, it's been,,,,,,,,,,,,You are right about those Diehard Battery Jumpers,,,,,if you don't keep them fully charged up, the battery sulfates and won't hold or take a charge anymore. I got this battery desulfater/charger that I use on all the batteries that I got. I am always looking for replacement batteries for my jumper batteries.

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
We dont often get to see the inside of ya van.Usually an oustside shot of it at a landmark or show somewhere.I like the way it all comes together for ya.But you've had a couple of decades to get it like ya want.Simple, compact, and practical.I knew you'd have a chop saw or sawzall involved some how.lol poor lil stove.Enjoy your trip, and of course take pics, even if is 'nothing'.Ya always have some interesting shots.

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
That 2 burner stove served it's purpose over the years, but there never is enough room for a guys stuff that he needs to survive on the road, so I converted it over to a 1 burner to save space. Now INVERTERS,,,,I LOVE inverters,,,,, some of those little jumper batterys come with an inverter hooked on the back of it. I ran this 1200 watt one in my motorhome for awhile until I got a Honda Generator for it.

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
what about a PV panel to keep a spare battery charged? that is what I am planning for. they even make a flexible stick on variety often used on airstreams.

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
It all depends on how much power you use,,,,,you need to put it back into the battery,,,,,,,the vans alternator can do it, but that takes gasoline,so does a generator,,,,,,,Sunshine, if you got some, is free,,,,,here are some portable solar powered battery chargers that you put on your dash or roof and you make electricity,,,,,,,,you can run your whole house if you cover your roof with panels,,,,,,,maybe even sell some back to the electric company.....

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
we have a 6kw system on our garage roof, local utility co paid for 85% of the cost. I'm hoping for a 15-30 watt for the van

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
You never know when you need power,,,,,,,a few years ago, the right rear wheel bearing burned up and welded itself to the spindle on my motorhome in the Desert. The thing is, the outer wheel bearing is what holds the axle and drum on, so I look in my mirror and see my rear dual wheel sticking out a foot and I see my axle shaft. So I unload my motorcycle, drive 30 miles to Indio, buy new bearings and a cutoff wheel for my electric drill and cut that bearing off out in the Desert. I sure was a happy camper after that repair,,,,,,,,

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
I can attest to keeping those Jump-Its charged. I have at least 6 of them and they seem to last for years, at least until your wife leaves her cell phone charger in there for a couple weeks. There was no comin' back from that one

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
not to sound like a salesman but pep boys has a good deal on their peak jump starters this month , they have one that is $14.00 after a $10. rebate, the one i bought was $24. after rebate but had the tire pump built in. and yes i've gone through several, have to keep them charged or they become a brick. and donnie i've also wondered about the inside of your van, cool set up i hope for something like that with mine so i can go van camping for the weekend.

That particular piece of tree was on it's way to VanAgains to mount a vice on it,,,,,,,,Vanish got the rest of it,,,,,,and yes,,,,,,,I did have a 350 cu in crate engine in my van once,,,,,but I put it in my motorhome,,,,,,and you can see, the van had yellow curtains inside before 2005 , when I repainted it,,,,,,,,

Re: Gettin ready for Kampin
I better stick to fixing vans,,,,,,,I took it down in 5 sections of about 15 feet each,,,,,,I wrapped both ends of a chain around the tree and cut it in the middle so it would just fall down and hang there,,,,,I had 2 hanging there but when I used a nylon tow rope, it would not hold 3 sections and it broke but those 3 sections stayed tied together,,,,,then the above picture is #4 section,,,,,,#5 was the last piece,,,,,,,
