Re: What are you up to?
Did some work on my baby today and have to say "THANKS" to G-Man for the advice about the "Spot-weld" removal tool. Chris, thank you. This little tool made quick work of the welds around the doghouse and I had them all drilled in about 45 min. And another 5 min. of wiggling and the doghouse was out. The wiring, e-brake and linkages still in on the engine. Thinking it could have taken me days without it so thanks Chris.

Re: What are you up to?
No problem Dan, just did it myself last winter. The nice thing about it also is you don't bend up the floor trying to get the old one out.

Re: What are you up to?
Well the weather sucks here.........cold, foggy, snow on the ground. So I take the dogs out for a run in the backyard, and I'm starin at the van and I'm thinkin "I wonder if it'll start?". Hasn't been started in a week or so and we had some COLD rotten weather of late. So I grab the keys and give it a shot, stomp, stomp................brump, brump, brump..........stomp, stomp, stomp..........brump, brump, VROOOM. Fires right off, burbles a little, then idles like a champ. To bad its useless in the snow.
Maybe I'll throw some HEAVY weight in the butt and fit her for chains or snow tires.

Re: What are you up to?
I got a kick out of the Snowmen to. My bro and I got the cieling up in the new shop. Hung 22 ft steel with a man lift and scaffolding, was slow with just the 2 of us but we got it and it looks good, Hopefuly we get the insulation blown in this coming week. Pretty sure now I'll be moving the van down there at the first decent break in the weather, take advantage of the heat ! A few solid hours and it should be at least running. Spent the day yesturday getting my Dad ready to head south with his motorhome. Single digit temps here now turned the snow into a hard crunchy mess but at least the winds have gone quiet. Starting to think Ice fishin' now.

Re: What are you up to?
Bill,
Not yet. The prices are through the roof for a 327 down here and 99% are bored 30 over and have been reworked several times over the years.
There's a guy down in St. Augustine (an hour drive) that says he has a stock 305 in a mid 80's Caprice with 72k original miles, runs really clean for $500. Complete from Pan to Carburetor including all A/C, headers and radiator.
Going down next week to check it out (Have to at that price). I got a good “Warm & Fuzzy” talking to him. He knows chevy’s and is willing to work with you. He says it's still in the car and I can drive it around if I like and if I like it we can pull it right then or he'll pull it and I can come back later and pick it up. I really wanted a 327 but with the prices their asking down here I figure a 305 might be a better way to go. And a little better gas mileage too I guess.
Will let you know what we find after we go down.
Dan

Re: What are you up to?
Dan,Some of the articles I have read talk about the newer cam technology that will really liven up one of these engines. The right cam and the smaller cubes could be a real nice combo for performance and mileage. I am real pleased with the 283 in my van . Bill
