Re: What are you up to?
Actually my Sawzall is an electric variable speed Chicago Electric from Harbor Freight,,,,(its the orange one that Vanish is holding),,,but I have also used Wideloads, Vanagains and Vanishes for cutting up vans. The blades are what is important,,,,,you need good quality metal cutting ones AND be carefull where you cut,,,,,,,the floor is like 16 gauge but if you start hitting the frame and spot welds under there,,,,,,that will take the fight right out of the blade. And did the blade just burn out or get bent out of shape.

Probably the frame underneath caused your problems,,,,,,cutting out doghouses are not on my list of favorite things to do in a Chevy Van,,,,,,

Chris,
Doing fine. Been sick for the last week with the crud so spent a lot of time just hanging out on the couch and computer. Started working on the tunnel but then stopped after talking to Bill (Bills66) and he's working on getting a V8 doghouse and Batt box assy for me. I have nothing but time so no real rush on anything right now. My girlfriend moved back down from Marquette, Mi. about three weeks ago so been spending time with her as well. It's coming along slowly, all glass out and front end soda blasted. Working on replacing metal in a few spots. The weather has been scorching everyday for the last two months and yesterday it suddenly dropped into the 40's, Weird... So yes, collecting parts and ordered about 2k worth of tools and supplies from Eastwood. The Tenzo racing seats are in the shop getting re-done and have stripped the dash completely. Pulling the gas tank next week and doing the gas filler conversion and recessed Lic. plate as well. Slow but sure. Just been sanding, sanding, sanding & more sanding! Went to the classic car show on the Island yesterday and not one van....... Thinking next year there will be "One"!
Now that it's cooling down a bit the work on the van will pick up some, I hate working when it's 95-100 degrees out. We tend to hang out in the shade and drink beer, so nothing really gets done when it hot!! And catching up on all the fishing I missed while in the Army for the last 25 years.... Not a lot of Bass & Pike down here, but lots of Redfish & Flounder!!!
It's fun finding parts and normally I am working on one area of the van, ordering parts for another and asking folks here (Usually Donivan) for info on something else all at the same time
Heading up to Atlanta today and back tomorrow to look at a van. Listed as a "69" but as you can see it's a 64 or early 65.

Actually, going up to pickup another motorcycle but plan on checking it out while up there......
.

Re: What are you up to?
I know you will, but some more pictures of that first gen would be cool. Getting all the things inline seems to be harder work than the real work. Wish I had more time to work on mine, but it's wood cutting and splitting season and try to get ready for my guess is a slow winter business wise. I have been doing some cleaning for a local speed shop and have been trading work performed for parts I need for my motor. So it the same here just gathering stuff for now.

Cruising back to montana after picking up a windshield at kooky's place in seattle! This means I can prime the front end, seal the leak in the windshield seal and weld in a new passenger floor panel! The windshield has been a big hold up for the 67!

Re: What are you up to?
Havent been doin much on the Handi, just been strippin the parts van. Need to get it stripped and outta here, so I have some more room to work. Other than that. since the weather has been nice been ridin the new ride whenever I can. Snow is a comin, so I'll have plenty of time for the Handi then.
Might be movin to the Desert this year..................gettin really tired of the snow, and the mountain is gettin REALLY crowded with the wrong kinda people.

Re: What are you up to?
The desert has even more of those people you mentioned. More speed freaks than you can count and the gang bangers are everywhere. It is getting difficult to find a really nice place to live in San Bernardino county. That is why my wife and I want to move up to Washington State to a small town that doesn't have the crime and there are hardly any illegal aliens. We have a house there already just can't move up till we get our surgeries taken care of here at the VA Hospital. None of the VA hospitals up there treat veterans dependents.

We want to go to Idaho......around the Twin Falls area. That will have to wait till I retire though. SW Hesperia, by Oak Hills s still pretty nice, and still close enough to work for me to commute....35 miles.

Re: What are you up to?
A lot of snow in Idaho. My father in law wanted to give me a house in Boise but when I went up to see it the warmest it got was 8 degrees and it snowed everyday. Way to cold for me so I turned down the house. If I had taken it I would have lived three doors down from Joe Albertson. My place in Washington get 32" of rain a year but seldom gets snow. Average temp is 72 degrees.

That's what so great about this site, the information one can get on an everyday subject. Thanks Mike for the info about the VA treating dependents, I was unaware that they offered this. I will check into it this week. Sure would help me greatly with the way the economy is today. The VA might be a little slow as you well know, what's it been now about 7 months since they told you needed surgery? Just hang in there, the care they provide us Vet's is great and the price is right!!!
