Re: What are you up to?
Coming up in July, you will be be able to use the original color license plates on your vehicle. But the rules will be it has to be for the right type of vehicle, (Commercial or Passenger), have the sticker year of your vehicle on it, and then have another tab plate attached to it to show the current year sticker,,,,

Re: What are you up to?
Damn Dan.... I thought I was the only one in stitches right now We know how much you want to come home to Michigan so we had the weather man send you a little taste of home. Hope you got an "apprentice" around there when you need 2 hands, working one handed is a B*&^%. BUt on the up side, you can keep the swelling down by holding the cold beer in that hand.

Re: What are you up to?
that one of those fancy homemade trans mounts i see there.??? the van looks really good. keeping them stock appearing is the way to go with performance and safety improvements a definite must.................... i was looking at those big driving lites on the other van thinking you will possibly have to hook up a 100 amp alternator when you throw the switch or keep it above 2000 rpm. they will take some power and test your charging system for sure.............. isn't cold beer and a brain fart how you get them cuts?? thats gotta hurt and turn a good workin hand almost useless for a while.

Re: What are you up to?
Yep,
No biggie. Will get the stitches out in a few days and it's been snowing and everything has been iced over the last few days so just taking it easy. While serving in Iraq I've crashed twice, once in a Helicopter and a C130-F, been stabbed and shot once each.... "It's only a flesh wound!" (Monty Python)….. Comparatively speaking, this is just a scratch!

Re: What are you up to?
Some Fiero seats. A couple of 6 cyl HEI distributors. Some other misc van parts along with a couple of door handles Rich bought for his van but turned out not to fit. Hopefully they'll fit mine. From a 3rd gen van one bench seat and another bench seat that converts flat to a bed. If I get my new window van running I'll put them in it. If not they'll be shop seats. At only $15 each and they're in excellent condition I couldn't pass them up.

Re: What are you up to?
Well , I'm no fan of window vans but this one was too good to pass up. And if I didn't it would have probably eventually made it's way to the junkyard. It's been sitting in a backyard for 5 years since the previous owner had some tranny problems with it. Sitting on 4 flat/rotted tires and rusty wheels covered in dirt and grim and decorated with cat prints all over the roof. I dragged it home last weekend and at least the rain we had washed some of the crap off but the first thing this weekend is to clean it up a little and get it on some round tires. And then tear into it and see if it'll run and what it mechanically needs. The only area of the body that needs work is the right hand side roof where it meets the drip rail. Maybe from being parked next to the house where water would drip on it. Or maybe as Don suspects from that side hanging out of a carport on Coronado Island where it was originally from. Other then that it's solid and perfect. Still has the factory stock air cleaner, gas tank, belly pan, and sway bay. Best of all it comes with a set of vintage California plates on it ready to be registered and on the road again.

Re: What are you up to?
So what kind of trans does it have??? I bet you'll get it running no problem. The old Chevy 6 are hard to kill. Great to hear you got all the hard to find parts & the set of CA plates. Wonder if its been repainted??

Re: What are you up to?
The van has a 3 speed manual,,,,,the problem is that the guy always towed it behind his motorhome without removing the driveshaft, so the bearings did not get lubricated and they froze up. He had it repaired once before, but I bet now the bearings are bad again,,,,,,,,

That's going to be one cool van. Can't wait to see it with new paint...
Don, did he have to cut the wheel wells? Can't tell.
