    '87 300ci inline 6? Empty '87 300ci inline 6?

I just spoke to a guy with a zero mile 300ci rebuilt motor from a '87 ford. I'm curious what would be involved in swapping out my tired old 240ci for the newer model 300ci.

Apparently I'd have to get an electric fuel pump as there's no hole for the mechanical one.

And might have to up the size of the clutch from 10" disc to 11"?

Other than that, will all the other ancillaries from my 240 bolt up? Distributor, alternator, intake/exhaust manifolds?

Is it going to be hell getting my 1bbl carb to work with this motor?

You probably already know this but basically they are the same block.
The differences are in the induction and exhaust as far as fitting it. It
would be a mistake (IMO) to not use the better intake of the 300 or
the similar aftermarket type. Problem with that is it goes well outside
the Doghouse on the Pass side. As you've hinted at, joining to an earlier
trans might be challenging. The 300 will have lots of torque though, but
the mileage may be an issue depending on how you set up the gearing.

    Hey Dakeddie
just swapped a 240 with a 300...the 300 was carburated so the swap went smooth. SD is right about the cfm of the old 1 bbl not doin right for the 300.
We had the old 1 bbl on and the 300 just did not run well.
So, we plugged all the vacuum holes from the 79 carb and put it on the 300..all is well now. The carb was the only non-transferable item.

using the same distributor, alternator, intake/exhaust manifold..
but that was a 79 cabuerated engine...I don't know about your 87 FI.
    Fuel injection is enterely different.
Pics of the swap will be posted soon.

and you have to plug up a bunch of ports on the exhaust ... look at the oil dip stick location and oil pan configuration as well ... if the pan won't work be prepared to switch out pan and oil pick up ... and relocating dip stick ...

Hi J-M! I probably should've just called you!

Learning lots here. So the dip stick will probably be behind the oil filter, and will need to be relocated to ahead of the filter. Is this easily done? I don't want to drill a hole.

Is it safe to assume this '87 motor will be a "smog" motor? What does that mean anyway?
