Been riding the storm out by looking for parts , doing research on some stuff and going thru galleries to catch ideas. Fortunately we haven't gotten much snow but the wind has kept me feeding the woodstove.

Re: What are you up to?
Pulled the driveshaft, trans, bell housing and clutch out of my 66' today. My father in law helped me out (along with Donivan's instructions). He is old school no messing around so didn't get any pictures before starting the job or during. So I will probably be on here asking lots of questions when I try to get the shifter linkage back together! I was really glad I had the help, dude is 78 years old, strong as an ox, and knew some good tricks. As we were working on it I said I didn't expect he would be under there with me, just giving directions and handing me tools. He said "I love this stuff!"
PS - think the wife will mind if I spend all Christmas Eve day cleaning and painting parts while she deals with the kids???

Re: What are you up to?
Here is another recently completed project. Driver's side serves as a "before" picture, it still needs to be done. I will say that EvapoRust works! After I put the mirror back on I was wondering if I shouldn't have just had it all chromed, although I have no idea how much that would cost.

Re: What are you up to?
you should check your flywheel for and blueing or cracks, best to take it to a machine shop and have it turned down, like they do a brake rotor,

It looks pretty good but we're going to clean it up and get a better look. Hoping to not have to remove the flywheel...

IF YOU WERE GETTING ANY CHATTERING OR SHAKING LETTING THE CLUTCH PEDAL OUT WHEN YOU START OFF FROM A DEAD STOP, THE FLYWHEEL MAYBE WORPED

Re: What are you up to?
OK, that's good to know, because it was not doing that. It was making a noise as soon as you depressed the pedal (not sure how to describe it) that people thought to be a bad throw out bearing. So we figured we're breaking it all down might as well do the whole clutch. It's raining today (and Christmas Eve) so we'll get back to cleaning it up day after tomorrow.

Re: What are you up to?
Merry Christmas to you too!!
After all the wrapping paper was thrown away and the kids busy with their new toys, we went out and installed the new clutch and put the trans back in. We discovered the clutch was OK, it was definitely the throw out bearing making all the noise. But now everything is all new. Now when I depress the clutch, all I here is....nothing!!! Now it's about time for Christmas Dinner, a nice big roast.

Recovering from pushing my van into a parking spot at work. Ugh. One of the easier vehicles I have ever pushed, but not one of the lightest.

Re: What are you up to?
Goth, Sorry to hear that. Nothing serious I hope.
Wylee, nice job tidying up the wires. underdash is so exposed in these old vans. I like the dash skirts that some of the Ford Falcons had to hide some of this.

Spic-n-span
I was chasing down some wiring issues and had to pull a couple of the window moldings. While they were off I decided to clean them up. Like Lays Potato Chips I couldn't stop with just one. Lots of elbow grease and comet to remove decades of dirt, grime, and grease. Now they are all nice and clean and re-installed. I guess these are made of the blown into mold fiberglass, there are some kinds of strands visible on the back. Some cleaned up better than others, maybe some day down the road I might just paint them.
