gas tank for 68 Empty gas tank for 68

Post by Guest Wed Oct 22, 2008 2:33 pm

I already posted this in parts wanted, but also just wanted to throw it here just in case people weren't looking in there.

Hey, haven't posted in a while.

I need a sending unit or preferably a whole gas tank, as mine's pretty beat up and really dented.

Come to find out, when you pit jb weld against gasoline, gas wins.

So, if anyone has an extra tank for a 68 sitting around that you'd like to get rid of, feel free to email me.

    Thanks!

Ah, good thought! I discovered a half inch crack toward the front of the tank (engine side, not bumper side) and patch it. The sender is definitely loose...so I'll have to do something soon. Unfortunately, this is my only vehicle and the economy is rough right now, so I don't always have a ton of extra cash sitting around to work on things.

    Thanks for the ideas!

Alex, here is the recent thread for the sending units:

    https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/a-parts-for-sale-f7/fuel-sending-units-t1920.htm

They are going for about $70. Cheap for a nice piece of mind.

Radiator shop could possibly patch and solder the tank crack. Be careful on a used tank. Lots of crap in those things. You may want to get it tested and flushed before installing it.

A used one may have the very problems you already have. And shipping a gas tank would be $$$

My buddy Brian has oodles of gas tanks, but I'm not sure if he'd ship one. You can call him.

    410-867-4056 (before 9pm ET)

67-70 tanks uses dual straps, 64-66 uses a single strap.

I bought a new sending unit off of Ebay. It's foreign made, but it looks good and it's correct. Beggars can't be choosers.

    Thanks!

Very Happy I see Nate popped in with directions to get hold of Brian so that is covered.
Did you know that JC WHitless carries (They Say) a replacement Plastic tank (larger capacity) for the later (2 strap) A-100's? Older A's only had one strap.
Not sure if it comes with a sending unit though.
If you do find a good tank the sending unit for the late 60's B-Bodies will fit & work. Just have to bend the pickup tube up a bit.
