Steering wheel adapters
I know this has been touched on before but I cant seem to find the results. What are you folks doing when you swap out steering wheels, seems there isnt a kit available for our econolines, or is there? I was told that the Grant 4280 would work but I am unsure of that, it is listed as a 67 to late 70 ford full size vans? Any information would be great.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
I e-mailed Grant & they said that they do not make an adapter for my FREAK Eco! Naw, they just said that they do not make one(only every other truck in the world!)

Grant makes them for Falcons. I wonder if that adapter would work?

Re: Steering wheel adapters
I used a Grant 4280 on my '64. I think the directional cut offs will work but I just put the new wheel on a couple weeks ago and right now the van is not drivable (only temporary). The other minor issue I have is the black trim ring beneath the wheel (part of the adaptor kit) doesn't quite meet the same piece on the column. I have about a 1/4" gap. Not bad, but something I'd like to address in the future.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
Jegs has them. I found them on another website where they were listed for 64-67 Econos.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
Does anyone know the maker & number of the adapter for the '63? I really want the green Mooneyes California Metal Flake steering wheel in my Frog. I may have to use JB Weld .

Re: Steering wheel adapters
I should clarify the number I posted is off a box I have here thats a SUPERIOR,not Grant adapter. It says Superior Performance Products Canada Inc. The box says for 67-74 Econoline, has 2 numbers actually; 86-572K and 86-5720 on it and its says"500" Horn adapter kit which includes everything needed for the horn and the adapter to mount the wheel itself in it.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
The Grant will work but the horn won't. I always add a horn button somewhere like on the steering column brace or just under the dash

Oh yeah, good point Mike. I forgot about that but it wasn't important to me as also have a remote button on the steering column brace.,

Re: Steering wheel adapters
would it be too crazy to cut out the old center and weld it into the center of the new wheel? would be hidden under the button. and not affect the nice new finish.....no?

Why??? Installing a button somewhere handy is very easy and less time consuming.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
People have told me that I was educated beyond my intelligence and I sure don't understand all that I know.
OK, so far this what I have found out. Superior makes an adapter for 67-74. I have a '63.
Grant has one that will work on something but Grant sez no adapter for a '63?
Don't care about a horn button. I'll yell real loud.
I'm SO confused! I think that I may have to forget the steering wheel and use some Vice Grips to steer the Frog!

Mike,
Do you have a pic of how you did the horn button? Does it show in one of your pics already posted?

Re: Steering wheel adapters
Cool. Thanks. I was thinking about putting it in the dash too. I ordered the 4280 adapter today. I'm pretty close to Jegs so I should have gone and gotten it but I'll wait to cruse down there until I need more stuff. Let me know how that dash one works will ya?

because the original question was pertaining to swapping steering wheels. having a working horn is just part of the problem. the other is actually being able to mount the steering wheel.

The steering wheel will mount perfectly with the Grant Adaptor. The horn just won't work.mothradeath wrote:vanishingbreed wrote:Why??? Installing a button somewhere handy is very easy and less time consuming.

Re: Steering wheel adapters
Vanishing Breed,
One more time so that I will have it in black & white. Which Grant adapter do you recommend for a '63(I don't care about a horn)?
I have seen too many number for adapters.
