Re: Hinge rubber
I have seen the stick on ones on Taz's van and they do look good and 1/3 the price. No one other than a vintage van owner would know that you had 3rd parts on your van

Re: Hinge rubber
Part # 12337944 They are only $2.20 a piece. I bought mine at
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/
They came 5 in a package.
I am not going to pay $ 8.50 for a piece of rubber, I would used black silicone first.

Re: Hinge rubber
True, but since they were stick ons they would be easy to replace. Mine were painted and didn't know if that's how they came from the factory..

Re: Hinge rubber
It will look cleaner and factory if they are not paint, plus not sure if the stick on ones have to have the hinges removed to put them on???

No, it has a splice,Funny,I was thinking about that after I ordered them--so I guess one more good reason to go with the stick ons...

Re: Hinge rubber
I'm all for the stick-on version of these. It is definitely important to have these holes sealed, to keep the water from getting in and rusting out the bottoms of the doors and the body.
Doing it the way the factory did has its problems. To do it right you'd need to paint everything first, with the doors off, and then install the rubber, push the hinges through, and bolt the doors on. (Don told me that it was difficult to force the hinges into the new rubber.) And I am here to show that this is not the way Chevrolet did it.
These are photos of my 65 Sportvan, which still had its original paint. This van, along with every other I've seen, had paint on the rubber -- which is always peeling off because paint doesn't stick to rubber well.
I got the final proof when I removed a hinge and the rubbers and found rust underneath, which tells me they painted it with the rubbers in place, which would have been easier. The body and door panels were most likely primed before assembly, which is why these aren't totally rusted away.
Another thing I found interesting was that these two rubber seals were not the same. The one on the body only had a little bit of rubber on the inside but the door's was exactly the same on the inside as outside.

Re: Hinge rubber
I used the 3m weatherstripping adhesive on the back side of these since the sticky part is worthless.
