Re: vehicle shipping companies
I used Classic Car Transport ( http://www.classiccartransport.com/ ). They are brokers with drivers nationwide. The van I bought was in an out-of-the-way location and it took a while, but I was very happy with the results. Good luck with yours.

Re: vehicle shipping companies
I used Sun Coast Transport and while they are a broker they communicated with me very well and overall I was happy with their efforts.
I don't know how much you know about auto shipping but here's the deal. There are two kinds, "Carriers" and "Brokers", carriers are actually the people that own and operate the trucks so you are dealing with the company thats going to touch your vehicle directly. Brokers are just that, middle men who try and match loads with carriers and take a finders fee off the top. From what I understand most brokers use the same set of tools and boards to try and find a carrier for their load.
They'll put the load out for "bid", i.e. "got a car from Las Vegas to NYC, $800 one way", if carrier needs one more to get a full truck and is going through Las Vegas they might take the bid and pick up the car. Carriers tend to cost a little more because they actually have to route a truck to go pick it up, brokers will make a bid and wait.
I actually had a lot of trouble from the first two carriers that picked up the bid from my broker (Sun Coast) and the broker had to dump them and start over. The first one wouldnt go the extra 50 miles off the highway to get the car and the 2nd guy (a mickey mouse outfit) had a truck broke down close by and said he was "picking it up tomorrow" for about ten days then started complaining about the money, we fired him too.
Keep in mind that if the car is in the middle of nowhere it might take awhile to get someone to pick it up. If you use a broker and the quote is "low" it will probably take forever and the guys that pick up your ride may be questionable.
I almost dropped the Broker, through no fault of their own, and went with Reliable Auto Carriers, honestly i wish I would have went to them first but I didn't find them until after I was committed to Sun Coast. The price was competitive and they are a dedicated auto Carrier (not a broker) with a long term business. All of my contact with them (Reliable) was great even though I ultimately didn't have to use them. They are a professional outfit, my advice is to use a carrier over a broker and consider Reliable, at least get a quote.
Good luck.

Re: vehicle shipping companies
Thanks much for the heads up on transporters. Had one really good guy who passed away a couple of years ago.
Also, any ideas on shipping large items likd engines and transmissions?
Would love to have some good contacts on low and slow shipping stuff probably strapped to a wooden pallet.
Thanks again!
