Hi all,
I joined about a month ago and my son and myself just purchased a 1965 Spring Special pickup from Fred Carello in Rhode Island. Fred is a great guy and is very knowledgable in Econo`s. He also is a hell of an interior man, so look him up if you need yours done.
We finally took delivery this past week and already we`ve been tearing into her. Ahhh, nothing like a new love, eh? This diamond in the rough has a Ford Motorsport 302 with a C-4 AT and a 9" rear with 2:93 gears. There is a little rust work to do, but it will be a jewel soon enough. I have to put A/C in it and we will paint it orange. Stay tuned for all the details in the next few months. My son is 17 and this is his 1st ride. I had a 63 Econo panel when I was his age, so I`m trying to keep it in the family. Nothing like corupting the youth of America... in a good way!
This is the best site I`ve found and I want to thank everybody in advance for help in our new addiction.
Yours in Sport, Art

Welcome to group. I know the pickup you just bought. I was just at Freds to have my interior done in my 61 three window. The 65 was sitting in his shop. Took this picture.

Congrats on the pickup. I'm kinda hooked on them myself. Fred is the man when it comes to Econo interiors. I highly recommend his work. The interior in his 8 door van is a work of art. Just beautiful. He did my 61 proud. Here he is with Eric Duffel from Mississippi working on my headliner. When you get the mechanicals worked out on your truck take it back to Fred and let him work his magic!! Worth the trip.

Hi Econopoor,
Fred is a class act all the way. One of the reasons I bought the truck was because he did the interior. I was sold just from talking to Fred, from one hot rodder to another, he is a wealth of information. Thanx for putting up the picture of our truck in Fred`s place.
Give me some time and I will do this truck justice. I`ve found that we seem to have one of none in this area of South Florida, given the looks and questions we`ve got this past week..... and the chicks seem to really dig the look, lol.
Now if I can only get wookee to get me the phone # for that cute little blonde he`s been showing off.... Art

I didn't think that truck had a finished interior?? I thought it just had some stock covered seats from some random 80's something or other. I dunno, It's easy to get lost in all of Freds stuff. It's an Econoline candy store!!
I went to Daytona two years ago and didn't see a single Econo. Only A,G,or E, I saw was the LRW A-100 in Garlits Museum. Had to get home. I was having withdraws.

Hi Duane, I hear you!
We`re only about 232 miles south of Daytona and try to make the Turkey Run every year. The only Econo we saw last year was the "back asswards" one, that was unique, but not one you would drive everyday.
I talked to Fred a little while ago today. We`re working on the suspension and found a bent, left front spindle that we have to replace. Fred is going to check and see if he has one in his stuff, he only has to move about 5-6 cars to get to it! Art

That's the thing about Fred's place. He has so much stuff it takes a while to get to some things. I don't know how he knows where everything is. I can't keep up with my piles. I don't know how he does it. LOL.

Found and installed this new/old stlye hubcaps. they`re the old 50`s lancer spinner type you can get from: HubcapMike.com I would prefer to have an original set of Craigars, but these will do and alot less $$$. $114.62 delivered for 4. We reset the spinner with loctite and had to clean the overspray around the edges, but they look awesome rolling down the road. Thinking of maybe painting a checkered board pattern, not sure. Here`s one for the Chevy guys, It`s the old air cleaner off of our old 32 Coupe, that had a 454 Big Block. My son fit the K&N filter and the hand painted top......I didn`t think it would fit ( 14 x4 ), but he did it. I have to admit... it looks pretty good. We added a new pointless distributor, coil and wires this week to the 302. Art

A hotrod truck needs a hotrod tach..... remember the original Sunpro`s ? I`ve had several over the years, this is the new model SST802R 3-3/8 RETRO LINE ; has the look from the 70`s with the new electronics.
I hooked it up tonite and she runs out nice. Mounted it to the "A" pillar, it`s the perfect spot...... Art
