Thats a good artical, In the 50's mechanics used to use burning propane to look for freon leaks in AC systems. The freon burning with the propane would make a green flame to show the leak. That too produced a variation of Phosgene gas. Even though it was known to produce a poisonous gas it was "the way" to check for leaks untill enough guys died from it.
A good dose of phosgene gas will produce an unsurvivable cardiak arrest within 2 seconds acording to the volentier fire fighter training mannual.

I was at the local repair shop getting an oil change yesturday and saw a can of that sitting on the hoist, told them about it, they had no clue either. The lad who does most of the mechanical work there paid very good attention !
