    Sad Story Empty Sad Story

Post by Guest Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:20 pm

It is with a heavy heart that I write to tell you my 66 Handyvan got rammed while it was parked in the rear left bumper by a drunk girl. It's pretty worked. I am thinking her insurance is going to total it. The rear doors are all bent up and the windshield got cracked. The whole left panel side of the van is rippled, but the side and front doors are still in good shape. Not sure about the tranny (it was in gear) or the engine, but the tank was punctured and leaking.

Anyhow, I know there are some people on this list that would love to get at these parts. The van is in Oakland, Ca.

    Will take some pictures soon.

If you decide to part it out and have any pop-out windows, I'd be interested.

Sorry to hear it! Glad you weren't in it when it happened. Don't sell off them parts yet, you might just need them yourself for the next one Wink

I hope you can find another to switch the good parts to then liquidate, here, the stuff you don't need. Although I dislike the aphorism: Make lemonade out of lemons, it does seem like the way to think about it.

Some puke hitting my van is one of my bigger fears related to all the work put into it.

Thanks for telling us about it, Mark

The buckle in the floor panel seen through the rear door in the pics is pretty bad.
If the frame is in the same condition, which, since it's welded to the floor, it should be, the van is scrap metal.
Unless you trust someone to patch in a new section of fame for you in the rear quarter.
It could be done, but replacing the whole van would be less expensive.
    I'm sorry for your loss.
I hope no one was hurt, but I hope the knucklehead who hit you realizes what they've deprived you of.

    Oh man,

I'm so sorry this happened!! Man, I seriously feel your pain and share in your grief. I too, have had to bury an old friend before. In 2003, my beloved '66 sportvan custom was totalled in a towing accident on the freeway.

Reading your post made me go back to re-red my old post about my van getting wrecked on vcvc. Seeing that damage on your van in the Craigslist ad makes me cringe as I remember my poor sportvan's demise.

    http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001789.html

I was without a van for 3 long years until I got bit by the bug again... I hope you get another van right away and don't have to wait like I did.

Your van was very clean. Again, I am so sorry for your horrible loss. I hope they pay you a fair price for your loss so you can get another early. Save those bumpers! Even the mangled rear can be straightened out and chromed to look great again.
