66 parts van Empty 66 parts van

Post by Digz Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:00 pm

I got the 66A in the shop finally to strip it down some. A couple Qs for you dodge guys, 1. Is the front of the doghouse affixed to the radiator support or will it come off seperately? Im trying to tear it down in a manor that may leave it self powered for a little while anyway if I can. 2. can I swap out the front axle with my 69, springs and all without a any big problems? Are the 2 the same as far as the axle and springs go? Possibly the same for the rear ?
    Thanks for any input..... Joe

Joe.. The radiator is bolted to the front doghouse panel, and the only difference I have found so far are with the front axles, they are the same except for the king pin size, some have 11" brakes, and heavier springs. I'm sure sme of the other guys have other things to add. The rears are a direct swap. I got my new spring hangers and bushings from springsn'things.com.

Thanks Duane, I'll check all the drum sizes before I get that far then. There isn't much below the wheel line that is worth saving on this, at first glance it doesnt look that bad but the way it was stored before I picked it up pretty much rusted the underneath out. It was a Sportsman starting out then someone tried filling the windows. I'm going to salvage what sheet metal I can for the truck, mostly the nose, maybe a part of the roof and fuel fill area, so I cant say when and what I can cut off it yet.

I should add, I'm still replacing tools to accomplish much of anything yet.

Not only does the radiator bolt to the front doghouse section, stuff goes through it. Shifter arms (manual), wiring, and the ebrake cable (not a running issue, but still one more part).
