Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
Wilwood doesn't have a kit but I used their parts to adapt their disc brakes onto my A-100. It was a bit expensive but well worth the money cause we all know brakes are the most MOST important.

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
I've never bought disc brakes to install on any of my A's, but then again I've never had anything other than stock engines.

I tell ya there is something to be said about having confidence in your brakes. Like I say I run Wilwoods on the front and SVO discs on the back and that truck of mine will stop on a dime.

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
What was involved with the SVO discs on the rear? Was it a tough swap? My A is factory 318 w/727 and I dont have much confidence in the brakes...I looked into the kit from AAJ Brakes but my problem is i have a factory sway bar and dont really want to remove it unless I have too? Anyone know of any other alternative The discs are a must as I have A 360 in the works...Rat

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
Thanks guys for the nice comments. Benwah, ya my truck was in Carlisle back in 1998. You are probably thinking of Bob Engel's black and white truck that had the 383 in it. That truck is now in Northern Ontario. My truck was total stocker when I bought it from him. Also when I bought it it was 1998 GMC colors which totally had to go cause they looked to "new" for the truck. The truck is now correct 1970 Mopar Deep Sherwood Met. I see if I can find a picture of the truck when it was down at Carlisle in 98.
The SVO disc brakes on the back were easy. When I was building the Dana for it I put on a set of Ford housing ends and the disc brakes bolt right to it. Actually the brakes are made by Team Strange but are a total copy of the SVO ones. On the front the Wilwoods I think are the way to go. I was able to put on aluminum hubs, vented brake rotors and billet Wilwood calipers on it the straight axle and man those things STOP!!! All I had to do was machine the one side of the face of the spindle to accept the Wilwood caliper braket. I have a factory sway bar on the front of my truck too.

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
Ya, he has had the black and white pro streeter that he built. He had the red truck that use to belong the John Graham which Wayne Taylor owns now. Then he sold both of those. Then he had my truck down there in 1998. Now he has the pro streeter that Roy Haire built with the Hemi in it. Which is now for sale.

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
Hey 57ratrod, the caliper bracket came right from Wilwood. You will have to machine the face where the old backing plate bolted onto. Nothing major, just the width of the actual bracket. I will get the part number off the braket for you. I wanna say it was a A body bracket... but it has been 10 years since I did that. Also you might have to machine a ring to put into the braket hat depending on which you decide to run to space it out a bit. With mine I had to to run the vented rotors my buddy's shop sells. I also added aluminum hubs too. If you are not in a huge rush I usually every winter take the front end somewhat apart just to check everything. This winter I could take a pile of pics of my set up. Let me know. Also my email address is theace27@hotmail.com

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
I have a brake sticking on the pass side front that needs attention..im going to prob put a new set of shoes on for now so i can get a little bit of fun safe drive time before winter then tackle the disc setup over the winter so that would be perfecto!!! Where did you find the aluminum hubs what were they off of? Did they require mods to put them on,and also was wondering if you were able to keep the same bolt pattern for wheels sake or did you have to buy diff bolt patt wheels? I got ur email addy thanks I may drop u a line for some tech tips...THANKS so much for the help..Rat

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
Hey Rat, the aluminum hubs are ones that my buddy's company builds for Team Strange. He just matched up the bearing races from the original hubs. You can get the hubs in whatever bolt pattern you want. I ended going with a 4 3/4 bolt pattern cause my dad has a Mailbu he races so that way we can switch wheels back and fourth if we want.

Here is a link to the SVO brakes I use on the back of my A-100.

Here is a link to the front brakes I run, except I run Wilwood calipers instead of the Strange ones shown which basically look the same.

Re: Disc brakes for A-100s
What is the name of your buddies company? sounds like you got this whole brake thing down to a science, I cant wait to get the brakes fixed on my van...its pretty sweet if I am wanting to make a right hand turn, just apply the brakes and let go of the wheel..LOL my goal is to update enough so i will be able to make road trips and drive daily in nice weather without worrying bout if im gonna be able to stop at the next town or light. Dont get me wrong everything works just not as well as I like my brakes to work, but the van is 40 years old and shes doin the best that she can,she just needs a little TLC.
