Disk Brake Kits (2nd Run) & 3rd Empty Disk Brake Kits (2nd Run) & 3rd

Post by Guest Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:15 pm

    greetings !
wow what a great time at the nationals, got to catch up to many early owners there
we have returned home to a message from the shop saying the second run of 10 kits are ready to be picked up next week!
being at the nationals with a pair of brackets on the table we have reached a 3rd run of
10 more kits needed SEVEN of those kits are available incase you were unable in a previous run of them NOW is your chance
    - we never thought we would sell the first 26 kits but we have and they are delivered
and being installed and used with ZERO problems, which has brought us to the 2nd run
of another 10 kits that too went very quickly
so many requests have lead us to what i seriously believe as the final run of these kits this year
as very soon i will be dedicating much of my spare time toward the making of issue 5 !
SO - if you are interested in one of the SEVEN kits remaining from the 3rd and final
run of them this year.. do not delay on contacting me NOW!
    vanmagstaff@gmail.com
(no paypal sorry, and payment is needed ASAP so i can order this 3rd run when i pick up the 2nd!) timing is everything!
    thanks
(and if someone could relay this update to vcvc and vcvc2 THANKS !)

Hopefully next year will be my year for the van nationals, at the moment my goal is to get it out of the garage.

I’m really stoked about the brake kits; I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, and it’s taken a lot of willpower to not pester the crap out of you.

Really cool to hear that you sold the entire 2nd run, and are taking orders for the third. Make sure to place a big juicy add in your next issue.

In issue #5 are you planning to have a list of the pick up/suburban parts that also fit VANS?

had a few minor things cause me to be delayed here
have a handle on things and getting them done as quick as possible
    -
the 2nd run is done and here i am de-burring and checking them and packaging for travel
    to those who have ordered
3rd run is ordered and being made now
    -
one of the glitches that has put a twist in our funding here is 3 unpaid orders
1 from the 2nd run and 2 from the 3rd run ,we have not received payments for
    -hopefully we'll see those soon!?
also there are 3 kits available from the 3rd run unclaimed if anyone is interested in a set
(we will not be having any more of these made untill possible next summer!)
    -
sorry to those who have been waiting ,i will have everyone delivered as fast as i am able
any questions, concerns or just want to check in please contact me

Looking at the parts list for these brackets I’m interested to know what everyone else has bought for their install.

What calipers you used, what proportioning valve, and what master cylinder?

And where did you buy your aircraft grade bolts?

I only have a couple of parts left to buy before I can get back on the road..

    Disk Brake Kits (2nd Run) & 3rd Dsc04411

Now I’m going down my shopping list of stuff to put them on..

I went with a Proportioning Valve and Master Cylinder from a 71 Chevy Van. I’ve also got my TransAm rotors, wheel bearings, hoses, longer lug bolts, and new dust caps.

I’ve just gotta track down those Grade 8 bolts, and buy my calipers.

Seems like its always the little stuff that adds up..

For my 67 Van I got the Bronco calipers from Rock Auto. I got high grade bolts from McMaster Carr using their online ordering. Got a new stock standard master cylinder for the 67s and new lines from Napa. Have not put it all together but so far the bracket is on and hubs are cleaned up and on. Still have a lot to do but once it is done it will be cool.

    Good luck on your install.

    Hey Kakster,

I checked out the McMaster site, not sure if I'm finding the right bolts..

You happen to remember what part numbers you ordered?

And did you have to buy them in packs of 10?

    Scott,
I did get some extra bolts. Here is what I ordered, show McM's part numbers:
    91286A296 (25 pack) of 7/16 x 20 x 1 3/4 grade 8 bolts
    91286A305 (10 pack) of 7/16 x 20 x 2 3/4 grade 8 bolts
    94830A540 (5 pack) of 7/16 x 20 lock nuts

Cost with shipping was $37.83 but I live near a distributor so your shipping might be different. Other combos could work too.

By the way Donivan has a link to an aircraft parts house that should also be able to get the hardware you seek.

The only bolts I can find in the hardware store around here are sold in half inches, am I going to have a clearance problem if I use 2 and 3 inch bolts instead, or should I hold out for the 1/4" shorter bolts?

    Cheap and dirty:

Thread a nut onto the too long bolt. Hacksaw off the offending length. Grind a nice bevel all the way round the bolt so the threads look nice. Unscrew the nut from the bolt and hopefully it will come off easily or at least dress the threads on the way out. A set of swiss pattern files can help to dress any munged threads as well - as would a thread die of proper size.

Hey PolarBear, did you look under the seats?

My install is slowly coming along..

Sunday I cleaned-up the hubs, filed them to fit the brackts, pounded in the lug bolts, and installed the bearing races. Unfortunately that’s when I found the passenger side hub needed to be replaced. You probably saw my thread looking for a hub.

Until a replacement hub shows I’m keeping myself busy with undercoating the wheel wells.

Kakster helped me out with the needed bolts, and I have the lock-nuts on the way..

Guess its time to go buy my calipers,

Oh, and I need more undercoat, and lug bolts, and wire brushes, and brake fluid, and I need a radiator cap, and seat covers, and a HEI distributor would be nice, and sway-bars..

The list just keeps going doesn’t it?

What size wheel fits over the M1Dadio setup?

I figured I would have a problem getting my 14" wheels to fit, and proved it today.

I want this wheel, but dont know if I should go 15x8, or 15x7.

I've got 15x7 rims on my '67, and they fit fine with 15-225-60 tires or 15-215-65 tires (current set). Don't know how 8" rims would fit, esp with the 3/8" offset the Blazer brackets would add via the hub hat.

I have found myself with an extra set of these brackets, if anyone is interested give me a shout.

Before jumping on this please do a little research and understand what it takes to complete this conversion. Here is a link to the manual, http://vaninmag.homestead.com/discbrakeinstall.html

I'm asking what I paid for them, $200 for the brackets. I will cover the cost of shipping, but will be shipping by USPS.
