New guy with a E100 Empty New guy with a E100

Post by kgdb Thu Dec 03, 2009 8:00 pm

Just found this place. I am a old timer that has done alot of fabrication over the years. I am a bodyman by trade but the last 19 years have been working for a large Auto Insurer here in canada. This past August I picked up a 67 E100, I was looking for one for sometime but they are fairly hard to find around here. The one I got was in need of some serious welding but being a bodyman that was the easy stuff. It had a little 170 CI with a 3 spd that I quickly (very quickly) got rid of. I built a nice little 302 and am using a AOD trans. I also put a 9" with 3.5's in it. Here is a link (youtube) to it running after I first fired it. The body has come along way since that video and if I can figure the site out I will post pics. I am just planning out the front disc swap and I think Dennis's kit is the way to go, tried and proven and all there, saves the hassle of piecing my own system together. I have swapped the MC over to the sideways Dodge van setup already. I didnt have a tailgate so I am just finishing up fitting a new style Dodge Ram tailgate, I section out a half foot on each side and it is fitting very well and will look great. I found a rear door handle and all linkage from a 67 ford Econoline van and will use that instead of the Dodge t/gate handle. These things are very fabrication friendly, It sure has been a fun project so far.

Thanks guys. I will get some pics up later today, have to get batteries for the camera. The "sideways" MC is an afordable upgrade that we used to do way back in the day on street rods and hot rods. It is the MC assy from the late 70's Dodge full size vans. If you find one at a wrecker make sure to get it all, brackets etc. I will post pics of it mounted later today.

I am thinking a 2007 Chrysler Crossfire yellow, its very pale and has the vintage hue to it.

I had a 69 GTO that I restored. The original color was Mayflower Maze which is very much like the color you are going to use. At first I did not want to paint it the original color because I thought it was a terrible but my wife talked me into it and Boy Was I Happy with the results. Very period ,and the simplier you keep it the better it looks.
Great Choice, look forward to seeing it completed.

Thanks mcfly. Paint is a long ways off yet. haha As you can tell from the pics I like to move around alot on the truck. It seems if I stay in one area to long I get bored. Doing the tailgate has been real time consuming. Next I will poke away at the front disc conversion.

"I am thinking a 2007 Chrysler Crossfire yellow, its very pale and has the vintage hue to it."

Ha! My '64 econo is in the paint shop right now, and I think that's the color I decided on.

I'm not sure, because I picked that one and a PT Cruiser yellow. We sprayed both onto an old fender, shot them with clear, and then I picked the one I liked the best. Either one would have been a great pick, but I chose the one that had a little bit of a brown hue to it. Very subtle, but not a bright yellow in any sense. I just don't remember which model it ended up being.

I looked at a LOT of cars and trucks before narrowing it down to these two colors of yellow. By the way, I'm just going with the base color. Decided not to add the pearilzed second color. I think it will look better on the truck and will be easier to match if I ever need to fix something.
