How much oil for a e100? Empty How much oil for a e100?

I just bought a 66 e 100 from a dude that said he adds a 1/2 a quart of oil every 3-4 fill ups of gas. Fine, but the oil is black as tar and Id like to change it. How many quarts does this thing take?
Also, When I test drove it, it was runnin good, now it sputters a ton and after awhile of driving it will kill at a light. Its also spurting oil out from under the oil cap??? Is this because its too full, (the dipstick shows its overfull when cold) or is it because the cap needs a better seal? Any suggestions would be great.

    Anyone on here near Milwaukee?

Welcome Vanage. I would think its over full if it said so on stick?? Most older 6 cyl use 5qts (with filter) on oil changes. But I am not Ford guy,so I'm probably wrong?? I would think it run like crap if it had too much oil in it??

Chilton tells me that for 1966 the...

    • 170 motor takes 4.5 quarts
    • 240 motor take 5.0 quarts

    Including a new oil filter.
