    slant 6 exhaust gasket recommendations

Post by kermit on Tue Jul 21, 2009 10:03 am

I have a slant 6-225 year 69 and the exhaust gasket was replaced in nov. Everying was going fine until recently, now it's leaking exhaust from the gasket at the #1 cylinder. At the time the gasket was used that came with the aftermarket manifold, was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a replacement gasket that will last longer.

check the manifold for warpage with a good strait edge before you install another gasket. if its to bad all the gaskets won't do a thing. stock /6 manifolds do bolt together at the center below the carb and sometimes all you have to do is loosen them at the 4 bolts and tighten at the head first then where they meet last. if its warped to bad a machine shop can resurface them flat again but don't loosen the 2 sides afterwards. use a good gasket from victor or fel pro. the best for them are multi layred steel gaskets. all the bolts are a must and so are the triangle shaped retainers in between the flanges.......good luck
