I bought a fuel ending unit from Vans Auto for my '66 and it seems to be too tall. The bottom of the unit (the socked part) hits the bottom of the tank and leaves too wide of a gap at the top. I have the "o" ring inserted and it doesn't sit flush with the top of the tank. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: sending unit too tall
1st of all,,,,did you hook up the wires and see if the gas gauge reads E -1/2 - F as you move the float by hand,,,,,,1st Gens use a 0-30 ohm resistance unit which is not the same as the newer vans,,,,,also is it for 5/16" hose,,,,the sending unit should be 8" deep,,,,with float rod at 4" to read fuel level accurately,,,,,you might be able to bend the pick up tube if rod is in the center

Re: sending unit too tall
Thanks for the reply. I ordered the unit from Vans Auto (Sending Unit, 65-66 Chevy Van G-Series G10 G20 - GMVSND001) and according to other feedback I got I'll have to bend the pick up tube to make it fit and add an adapter to the intake line (Dorman - OE Solutions 3/8in X 4in Steel Fuel Line With 16mm Fitting). It seems everyone has to do this to this part to make it fit a 1gen. I hope it's the case. Thanks again.
