225 Valve Adjustment Empty 225 Valve Adjustment

Alright, got the carb rebuilt and back on and the van is already running so much smoother!

This weekend's project is to remove the steering box and pop the valve cover off.

My question to you guys (with the 225 six) is, what method did you use to adjust your valves? There isn't a nut/bolt for me to grab onto the harmonic balancer to rotate the motor... Do you bump the motor over with the starter until you get close to TDC for the valves you are adjusting, or do you adjust the valves with the motor running? If the latter, how difficult is it to set the lash with the motor running, I've never tried?

Also going to check the valve seals while I'm in there. There is a bit of smoke at start-up that goes away after the engine warms up.

You can screw a nut at the end of the crankshaft.........from 1973 Chassis Service Manual.....

With the engine tuned properly, you can often get it to idle at 400-500 rpm. Adjust back up to normal RPM after adjustment.

A set of go no-go gauges helps.

    Thanks for the video, RodStRace!

Looks pretty easy. I wasn't sure about oil getting flung everywhere...

I have always adjusted mine while it's hot and idling. Not that hard once you get the hang of it... matter of fact, I really need to do mine again soon - been over a year and a half now and i used to do it at least every 6 months in the past...
