Re: A-100 Project
I've been concentrating on some of the more mundane tasks. I overhauled all 3 carbs and got the radiator-cooling fan roughed in. The 1st carb took about an hour, not including the 3 hours of soak time to do, by the time I was on the 3rd one it was down to 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure I can do a Holley 94 blindfolded now!

That tri-carb setup looks sweet.

Not sure if this answers the question, but I'm building a skeletal frame from 1/2" square tubing that will support a modified version of the original doghouse. Hard to see in the picture, but where the radiator sits now would be essentially at the rear of a stock doghouse. On this build, the majority of the original doghouse space is open in the center - radiator in the rear and the power brake booster and fuse panel toward the front. With the set-back the engine sits about 80% outside the cab. Once everything is boxed the engine and radiator are completely open to the rear of the truck and isolated from the passenger compartment. Trying to stay true to some of my build requirements - no noise, no heat, no smell.

Re: A-100 Project
how did you fasten the motor mounts to to frame threaded inserts? Did you reinforce the area in anyway?

There is a backing plate for each mount made of 1/8” plate. The mount and plate “sandwich” the frame rail and are through-bolted with grade 8 hardware. It’s little overkill, but better to err on the safe side.

I agree with erring on the safe side, did you put spacers through the frame?

That was my original plan, but with the thickness of the plate steel on both sides you would need an unthinkable amount of torque on the mounting bolts to even start to crush the rails so I scrapped the idea. If you are building for a high h.p., high torque, and violent launch application, I would box the rails and add the spacers. This build is fairly mild, so what is there now is far more than what's needed.

Re: A-100 Project
You are probably right I tend to over think this uni-body stuff, the factory mounts are just threaded inserts. Thanks

LOVE it, nice to see another Hemi A100, even if ours couldn't be much different. Great work!

Re: A-100 Project
Hoping to have some updates soon. I had another project nose in ahead of this one that is taking more time than I expected (like they all do). In the mean time I’ll pass this on…
Picked-up a little trick from an ‘ol time body guy that someone might find useful. You know how most everyone hangs their doors and aligns the hood before the nice new paint goes on? It saves a lot of scratched paint, but you can’t shoot the jambs completely, or a portion of the door is impossible to reach – that’s why a quality shop always shoots the doors and hood off the car. The big question is how do they not run into an alignment nightmare when they’re done? The answer is simple, but I sure as heck would have never figured it out. What this guy does is hang the door prior to paint. He sets all the gaps and when the alignment is perfect he drills a 1/8” pilot hole at the top left and bottom right corner of each hinge and through the jamb. Then the doors come off, everything is painted and when it comes time to bolt it together, a couple of 1/8 punches locate the exact hinge position and everything gets bolted down – no moving, shifting, scratching, or other nasty surprises.

Re: A-100 Project
Looking back on this thread, I was a little shocked to see that I haven't touched the A100 in just about a year! I had another project that crept in ahead of this, but I'm almost done so I can get back to something more interesting. This one is finally down to the little details (wheels, tires, and minor sorting) so I hope to have some progress made on the Dodge during the next few months. This El Camino was coming along so well, I just kept going to get it done, but it sure has set me back on the A100.....
