Re: 1966 Chevy G10
You know... your right m1. Thanks for pointing that out. It was a long day and I put the shoes on the same way that the old shoes were installed, so they were wrong before. Dopey me!!! I feel embarrassed because back in the day... I could do a brake job with my eyes closed. It's tough getting old!!! No problem, i'll get it fixed and put the shoes on the rear in the right direction. LOL!

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
Weve all done it or -WILL!!!!!!!!! Just dont forget to put it in drive -instaed of =REVERSE!!
Hersa some help!!= There is a "Tool" now made that is hand held- allows you to better install the small "Caps" that go over the small spring that locates -- the coil spring & pin that holds the shoes on!! Less than 10 bux @ NAPA!! Ive been putting those caps on with needle nose type pliers since day 1- had a car recently that didnt allow my usual way of installing them. Bought the simple tool & zappo -installed!! heres a similar one=

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
Had a tool like that from Snapon when I was first starting out. I didn't like it because I couldn't see the slotted hole to line up with the retaining pin. I was using a small pliers but then started using a small vise-grip and locking it just tight enough so the retainer would not move but not bend. works great. you can see what you doing and the retainer doesn't get away from you.

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
Seems like it's taking me forever to get these brakes done. I was thinking back in the day when I worked at Nortown Automotive in Chicago I whipped a 4 point brake job out in a couple of hours... and that was with turning the rotors and drums on the the brake lathe. Fixing this van up is just for fun and an investment, plus I have to commute about an hour to get to the garage where the van is. I just need to get the old gal back down on her wheels and get her out to the body shop before she gets snowed in.
The big snow storm got pushed northerly and is dumping on the middle of Minnesota, but they are predicting snow for my area on Tuesday. Got to get her done!!!

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
I appreciate it m1. I would have missed my mistake then wondered why the brakes weren't working 100%. I would have discovered my mistake after some hair pulling and brake drum pulling. I did switch the shoes around the right way this afternoon.

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
Work on the old gal has been going slow lately. I got new brakes wheel cylinders and hardware on all four corners. I'm replacing the worst of the brake lines and will test the others and replace as needed when I bleed the brakes. I will eventually replace all the lines down the line. The Gas tank has been repaired but needs the liquid gas tank liner put in yet. The radiator top and bottom tanks have been sandblasted and installed on the new core, painted black and looking brand new. Should keep the old gal's heart cool. I still need to bench bleed the new master cylinder and install it.
I should have some new pictures coming soon.

They claim because the Earth and oceans are warmer from man's activities, that has allowed the large Pacific typhoons that swept over Hawaii and went over Alaska and into the arctic to develop and is the reason the cold air vortexes are pushed southward into north Amerika...so in a way, the colder winters are related to global warming if you believe them....

Re: 1966 Chevy G10
I know that this isn't the place to be talking about this crap, but the Earth has been having cycles of Climate change as long as the Earth existed. These "Global Warming" "Climate Change" "Terrorists" are barking about this crap just so they can "generate money", "get rich", "create jobs", "boost the economy". The thing is WHO'S ECONOMY??? The bottom line is that they get money to flow... yea right... flow out of your's and my pockets into their bank accounts.
