I'm looking to get new shocks all around for my 64' GMC. I wanted to know what you guys are using or if you have any suggestions on what I should use. My van is still rollin' on those twisty original shocks so I gotta get some new ones. Thanks,

All 4 shocks are not the same,,,,, the front shocks are like 6 inches longer than the rear,,,,,,,and the Autozone website shows they are not available. And I am running the longer front shocks on my rear because it is raised up in back,,,,,,,,

Does anybody have the PN for air shocks front and rear? That is the direction I am heading after I re-arch my springs and do the kingpins.

The seller doesn't include a p/n either so you can research them. When I checked out Gabriel's website for the shocks in my previous post, they didn't give a listing for air shocks.

Here's a pic of mine...... I had to put 3 large washers between the frame and shock on the upper mount so the shock housing would just clear the frame. It worked out pretty good, centering the shock between the frame at the top and the springs at the mid point...

    Ryan,
I think I paid about $60 for the shocks and had to buy the air tubing kit individually and if I remember it was $14.95.
I found the shocks on eBay and Googled for the tubing kit.

Yes Nate close. But not as close as the pic makes it look. Got about 1/4" between the shock and frame. These vans normally would never need air shocks but I put my Motorcycle in the back and tow a 22' bass boat at the same time. Even without the air shocks it sits just fine but doesn't handle bumps well at all with the extra weight. These Gabriel Highjacker's have a PSI range of 25-200psi and I only have about 60psi in them to stabilize the load. It makes all the difference....

    Ryan,
If these are the ones your looking at. you'll need to buy the hose and tube kit separately.

    Shock:
    http://www.autozone.com/R,164064/vehicleId,1803601/initialAction,partProductDetail/store,941/partType,00661/shopping/partProductDetail.htm
(Keep in mind the price is for one shock only)

    Tube and valve kit:
    http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,30281/initialAction,accessoryProductDetail/initialR,812967/shopping/selectZip.htm

These are the ones I have and you will have to put 4 large washers between the frame and shock. Also you have to buy longer Grade #8 shock bolts.

Not sure you reason for wanting airshocks, mine is for hauling. When not towing I drain the air to the min. of 25 psi otherwise it rides like a shackled-up pickup truck with an empty bed.

You might want to try this kit. Not sure on the spec's but looks like a smaller dia. shock so may be a better fit. Also even with shipping is almost half the price of the highjackers at Autozone.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Air-shocks-64-65-66-Chevrolet-GMC-G-Series-Van_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a15Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem110362783925QQitemZ110362783925QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

But can't say anything about this kit since I've never used it.
    Hope this helps. bounce
