water pump question Empty water pump question

    Post by workhorse1978 Wed Mar 12, 2014 9:20 am

the old water pump on my 67 g10 has a threaded pipe on top of the pump, which i believe is a bypass of some sort. the new one has the hole for it, but did not come with the pipe. my problem is that i have pretty much destroyed the bypass trying to get it out of the old pump. what are my options here? can i go to a machine shop and see if they can make one, or is this something i can find online? the motor is a 292 straight 6. from what i have read online, the bypass is necessary to keep the engine temp down. any help is much appreciated.

,,,,,so what do you tell the world you are driving to get the right parts since there aint no such thing as a 67 Chevy Van with a 292? Do you have any pictures of the fake right side motor mount?

I ran the numbers on the engine block and it's a 292 from the mid 70's to early 80's. the right motor mount is something i'll need to figure out. i'll post a picture of what the previous owner did when i get a chance. i laughed when i saw it. i have some buddies that do metal and fab work, so hopefully we can come up with a solution for the motor mount problem.

you have to make a plate or something to attach the motor mount to the crossmember,,,and the fuel pump is in a different place,,,,,,but thats what people do when they put a 292 in a van,,,,,,,so at least you know what you got now and thats the important thing,,,,,,,

yeah, i thought it looked taller than the 250, so i ran the numbers to make sure i was buying the right parts. thanks for the tip on the motor mount.

a 292 has those giant sized pushrod side covers behind the distributor,,,WHEN,,,not IF,,,they start leaking and you need to buy the correct gaskets for it.....
