Rear Disk Brakes
I ran across this 85 Cadillac rear disk brake system at Pick a Part, so I bought it to see what RipVanArkie was into. But the thing is, its just metal so it could probably fit anything. So I will mess around with it for a while to figure it out. I really like that lever on the calipers that is hooked to a parking brake cable which pushes the piston out to energize the caliper. So, Rip whats next,,,,,where did you clock the bracket since the holes in the bracket don't line up to the holes in the rear end. And what about a rotor,,,,,I think that Cadillac could be the same as an S10. ,,,,,,(I don't want to have to think this all out myself),,,,,,,

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
I rotated the brackets about 35* and marked my holes. I used the Cadillac rotors as well, I just milled the wheel flange down 1/8" so it would slip inside the hat. You will need a 1/8" spacer behind the rotor so everything lines up. You will need to shorten the E-brake cables.
Here's the thread:
http://vintagevans.forumup.jobs/viewtopic.php?t=5028&highlight=rear&mforum=vintagevans
BTW: I haven't had to add an ounce of fluid to my brakes since the install! One half inch of pedal begins to engage the brakes, they stop straight and are not over-responsive. I could not be happier with the brakes.
Good Luck with it Don!

Rip

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Thanks Rip, I just want figure out the system and lay it out.
So 1st step, tilt the brackets up in back and drill new holes,,,,,,
Now these calipers,,,,,,BIG MONEY,,,,,I paid $10 for the left rear one with a $2 core charge,,,,,,,,seems to me, changing out the 2 o rings in the used one would be a better deal,,,,,,

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Rockauto.com has the rear calipers (A1 Cardone) for $83.79 including the core charge. I have a discount code as well. The only thing is, they don't offer free shipping.

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Guess you need to find another used Eldorado caliper. Sounds like a trip to the JY(or pick a part) Is it raining there??

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
I did get some rain over the last couple of days,,,,,,so that probably means it turns to snow as it travels east. I should go back and grab that right rear caliper since it is just laying under the Caddy right now. But the car could be gone by now,,,,,,,One good thing is that Cadillac is built pretty good, you have a good chance of finding their parts still good. But you got to admit, by putting stuff up on this website, you get to see and find out a lot of things. And there is always someone who will take it one step further. And I like to see that !

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
This is getting good and Don / Rip when you get it all figured out would it be possible to put together a "Step-by-Step" on how to do it? This could very well be a fix all for all G10 owner's.
I'm heading to the JY tomorrow to check out a few caddy's they have there.
Is it all caddy's or just the 1985 Eldorado's that fit?

[quote="donivan65"]The fancy cars use them,,,,,,,
Thanks Don, This gives me a few more to search for at the JY. Will these work without PB?
Also, do you know of and any other vehicle springs that fit a 1st Gen?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
The system will work without Power,,,,,,he just got carried away,,,,,,
The important part on springs is the center bolt which determines the wheelbase on a vehicle,,,,,,,thats what indexes the axles. And it is not in the center of the springs,,,,,,,the sides that go toward the bumpers are like 4" longer than the sides that point towards the transmission. So bring your measuring tape with

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
I have a complete setup here and a 72 Nova rear with the wheel flanges already milled.
Just so you know, the front rotors are the same as the rear on those Cadillacs.
Carried away!? I guess so, but I sure like the way it stops! My knees are bad and that was the main reason for the power brakes.

Rip

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Dan, I'm about 2.5 hours East of Mena, I like the hills over there.
Don, rain should be here Friday night, until then it will just be cold. I miss the smell of a good California rain... been a long time.
G'night,
Rip

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Putting front disk brakes on a 1964 Chevy Van is one thing, but putting 4 wheel power disk brakes on it, now thats getting carried away to a whole new one of a kind, level............

Re: Rear Disk Brakes
Rip..
Do you have any pics of your power brake setup on the forums?
I wonder if it could be adapted to work on an A-100.
