Rear Disc Brakes. Empty Rear Disc Brakes.

Post by gmytych Fri Jan 08, 2021 9:56 am

Contemplating rear discs on the A. work has already started using Scotties conversion.
I can always reassemble what I got.
Has anybody else have rear discs and how do you like them.
    Is it worth the effort??
    Thanks
    Mytch

Speaking for myself from a Ford perspective and having planned and attempted to install rear discs, don't bother. It's a waste of time and money. Working out the parking brake is a nightmare, use 80's cadillac calipers? Other options. Regardless, in my case I found the spring lands on the rear axle interfered in such a way that I would have had to orient the calipers in a ridiculous way. I don't know what size the drums/pads are on your Dodge, but they're more than big enough on a ford Econoline 9" rear axle. My 93 Bronco is ABS and has rear drums and 35" wheels, it stops just fine as does my 64 Econoline. Discs in the front, drums in the rear.

    A's have 10 x 2-1/2 rear brakes. A cheap and easy upgrade is to swap on 11 x 2-1/2 rear brakes from a C-Body.

i have not made the rear disc brake conversion the entire set up has been made functionable by Steve Scott .
i believe mytch is asking after the conversion is complete how much difference does it make compared to the factory drum brakes.??
i did make the front conversion and that makes a world of difference ,

    Dix is correct.
I have Scotties disc conversion up front .
The rears would be from 78 Jeep grand Cherokee.
ALMOST bolt on conversion including parking brake.
30$ in yard parts up till now.
