    Hi all

Am thinking of buying a 62 Corvan with a 2.4 engine, its a pretty rare van over here in England. I would like to know about reliability of the engine. Is there any major problems I should be looking for?

Should the engine be reasonably quiet (has it got hydrolic lifters? or do you have to adjust the rockers yourself?)

Are there any parts you cannot get spares for easily? Are carburettor parts available?

And how are gear boxes? Are they tough or weak?

Don't worry, we are not going drag racing in it!!!! Wink

Thanks guys an any information would be well received pirat

62 Corvair corVan - engine info Empty 62 Corvan engine questions

Post by Guest Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:00 pm

    a100terry,
I was reading your post about the 62 Corvan you were looking into. Perhaps I can help...

When you say a Corvan, I'm assuming this van has no side windows, also know as a Corvair 95. The "95" is the wheelbase from front to rear hubs in inches. If it has glass on the sides, it's known as a "Greenbriar".

At best, the engine, if original to the van will be an 80 hp, although a 102 hp was available as an option. Parts availability is rather large! Try Clark's Corvair Parts in Shelburne Falls, MA.01370. Phone 413-625-9776. 8:30-5:00, Monday- Friday. Their 2013 catalog is just coming out and only runs about 6 or 7 bucks for a copy. I think you'll be pleased! It's LOADED with all kinds of parts! I myself have been doing business with them for over 30 years, so they know their stuff! Hope I've been of some help!
