Smelly Dog House.. Empty Smelly Dog House..

Post by Jessetygr Mon May 28, 2012 2:19 pm

I recently just got my van on the road and I noticed that there were pretty stung fumes of exhaust (some times gas) when driving.. I spent the weekend playing with the seals on the dog house and filling in any little holes but then I came across this... Looks like the upper exhaust is not even attached to the manifold.. So much for a cracked seal!

    Might explain a bit..

It does not appear to have a donut gasket in it or bolted up tight, really cant tell from the pic, If its that loose I think you should really be able to hear it?

    Hey magic bus,
When I would shut off the engine, I could see the lingering exhaust coming out on the left side. I was able to wrench both bolts a good two full turns so hopefully the gasket is still somewhat intact and it's just a matter of loose bolts.

I'll bet that gasket is fried.

If you have to replace the manifold gaskets, donut gaskets or both the nuts should be heated up with a torch. If you haven't ever did it before I would suggest that you take it to a muffler shop cause a broke stud in the manifold or head & you are screwed. I have been there and it's not fun.
