Last week I removed the fuel tank, fuel lines, vent hose. Friday after getting rid of nasty old gas and and giving the tank a good flush I installed the tank with a new vent hose and fuel line. Today I went and picked up 5gallons of fuel and after adding the fuel I can not get the van to start.

This is the original fuel tank that looks pretty small, what do they hold maybe 10gs the most? The fuel gauge is only showing I have a quarter of a tank after adding 5gs which can not be right. Do I also have a bad sending unit? It worked ok before I removed the gas tank. maybe I have a bad carb to I am also planning on a carb rebuild.

    any thoughts?

Maybe remove the line feeding the carb? See if its pumping air or fuel while cranking? Just a little gas poured into the carb will cause it to hit and run a few strokes telling you if it's starving for fuel? If the pump is working it should pull that fuel into the system...

Ok so Im in order for a carb rebuild and a fuel pump replacement maybe. put a couple of drop on the carb and it turned over for a couple of seconds and died. Time to take this carb apart.

    Thanks, most helpful

I would check the rubber hoses on the fuel pump and gas tank. When they get cracks, they suck air and won't pump fuel up to the carb,,,,,,,

Ok so maybe the gauge is reading right then. I put in exactly 5g in a bone dry tank.

Ive started removing the carb, it is in ruff condition. Dirty. Found the motorcraft tag. May be best to replace with a new or reconditioned holly carb versus a rebuild.

The Tag says Motocraft D22F EA A 1FE. I can not find anything online that matches that tag id

I would always go with a rebuilt carb, done carefully by yourself. You will learn exactly how the carb works, which is handy for future reference, and you can make sure it is done correctly. They are quite basic really.
When i resealed my fuel tank, i put 5 gallons in to start with, and the fuel gauge went up off the bottom and stopped at the empty mark, so yours might be OK.....

A lot of our Econos came with Autolite 1100 carbs so you can consider them too.

yes it will fit those motors. I have an Autolite 2100 two barrel on my 200 ci motor. It had an 1100 on it but I needed more carb. with the built 200.

    not that one either.

    Found the kit online

    http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Carburetor-Kit-GP-Sorensen_5113490-P_428_R%7CGRPFUELAMS_16457312____

Parts have been interesting with my van because whenever and whowver swapped on the 170 for the 200 changed a few things. So im pretty sure the carb came from another vehicle to.

picking up a fuel pump tommorow. Removed the one on there now and its not pump very well at all. Had to press really hard to get it to pump, should move a bit easier and suck more air that it is.
