Pulled the rear bumper off the Shambulance tonight and poked at some rust bubbles.

I think I can figure out the outer skin repairs. But what is the structure supposed to look like on the inside corners? Are they supposed to be open so you can access the wiring, or is there more to it? Just hoping someone has some pics. This is the SuperVan model if that makes a difference.

Corey, I don't have expertise with Econos, but the A's have a double wall along the front, back and the rockers where they are flat in one direction and need added strength. The corners are single wall in back, as yours looks like.
It makes sense structurally. The corners are curved in all three dimensions, so they hold shape much better and don't resonate. There is no reason to add another layer here, except when an added feature (fuel filler wall or front turn signals) is in the same area. This is also an easily damaged area, so having access to the back for repairs is a good thing.
Hopefully someone will have pics of this area on another van for you to compare.

That makes sense Rod. I guess on a modern vehicle, there would only be a plastic splashguard there that would be held in with clips.

I'm lucky, as it seems only the rear drivers corner has taken a bump (only place with bondo piled up). I was also lucky that the bumper bolts came out without any breaking... I broke them all on the Grimstone van.

The inner roll pan seemed to have rusted away at that edge, so I am curious if the sides of it are simply flat. But I may just trim it.

    Thanks Rod!

Ok..I looked under my 66 and there are remnants of a metal piece that should go straight across to the outer skin. You are missing the bolt, which is still on mine that it was held in by. Your driver side still has the bolt sticking out right beside the end of the frame rail. I believe it is suppose to go into the seem where the floor joins underneath. Sorry for the crappy pic from cell phone, but hopefully you can see what I meen.....Rear Corner / Roll Pan repair Sspx0210

No pics but behind the roll pan should be a flat piece of metal all the way across the back. The corners should have an inner structure with a BIG drian hole in it. Its a small reinforcement panel, nowhere near the size of the corner itself. Your corners look to have been repaired in the past. D and D sells new roll pans with or without the license plate cutout and I ll have some for show and tell at Carlisle,Baker's, and the Nats.

Is there a blow-up diagram of that inner roll pan panel? If I understand correctly, the inner panel should end where that bolt is, just to the outside of the frame rail, and there should be bolt-on panels for the inner corners, is that right? Just mine and BigW's have returned to the earth?

Never mind... I found a PDF in the EconosRUs Yahoo group with a better resolution. I will have to make sure I take pictures of the patch panels when I get down to it!

Hey Tim (and friends), if you do have a picture or this inner corner, please still post it... any explosion diagrams I am seeing somehow hide the corner under the floor corner section. Thanks.

Link to PDF on Yahoo EconosRUs

I don't know if you can only see the document if you are signed up as a member of this group or not. It is a large file.

The link just worked for me, but I'm a member of the group. It's a large file, and I should ask permission on the yahoo group to see if I can share it here. However, the yahoo groups are a wealth of information that I would recommend joining, though the process takes time. And the moderators for the groups are really cool.
