Again, not to be smug.....I don't mind throwing money at something I want. All said in done, all in I will be in this $25,000. or somewhere around that. I know alot of you guys are in it for the thrill of building designing and tinkering. I'm in it to drive something that's pretty cool for the same price as a new Toyota Corolla.

not sure why you chose chrome headers. You will regret it. They do not dissipate heat and that will cause even more heat in your doghouse. Regular headers run at 800-900 degrees while chrome headers are much hotter. Jet coated headers are the way to go. They run at 400-500 degrees and never change color and will last for many years versus the chrome headers turning color and having to be replaced because they won't hold up for more than a few years.. It gets hot enough in the dog house without adding all that extra heat.

Here is a pic of jet hot coated headers on a 347 stroker I put in my 66 Econoline.

Remember the more chrome the more heat in your doghouse and here in Calif. that can cause a lot of headaches.

Actually $9000.00 is very cheap for a good paint job. My new paint job on my 65 Econo will cost $19,000.00 not counting graphics which will add another $4000.00. I had $38,000.00 in my 66 Econo, Vanishing Breed

    Sounds right to me.

That sounds way low to me. Labor should be closer to $3500.00 and that motor alone should be $7000.00 or more. My engine swap was close to $10,000.00 not counting the trans and new cables, new shifter etc. Sounds like you are either getting a steal or will get a big surprise when it is finished. Be sure to add a very good electric fan and an aluminum radiator because you are really going to need it with all that heat buildup.

Doing the electric fan and adding the disc brakes. Thanks for the heads up on the headers. I wouldn't have known till I was sweating.

    I like surprises Smile

So far as driving a van, I've been Sales Manager for Explorer Vans for a little over 20 years now and I started driving vans for about 5 years before that. I'm for sure a van guy.

I'm just used to driving a luxury van, I need this one luxury. I'm sending it back to Indiana after I bring her home from Arizona in a few months. When the rains start in November, she's going to Indiana for an interior face lift.

isn't that why you bought a van for in the first place. mine is tubbed w/9" Ford rear and 15X14 Cragars and Mickey Thompson Sportsman's 31X18.50-15 tires and ladder bars, wheelie bars, the motor/trans is a Corvette 327 auto. Do what you want with your van but take your time and do it right. if you need help all you need is to ask.
