E100 Gas Tank

My fuel tank has a few small holes that I thought I would just weld up and then get the tank lined. Is there another preferred fuel tank that you guys use when our stock tanks go south? Just curious.....

Thanks. If I remember correctly the mustang tanks are all rear center fillers. No problem to move the filler and vent if need be but if I can find something closer would be groovy. A fast check and it looks like a ford full size van tank (75-77) may just do the trick. Thanks

I usually have one made out of aluminum. I also have it made to hold 20 gallons. I think the last one cost me $200.00 to have made.

Thats what I did. You also are going to need a new fuel sending unit that goes with the new tank. Mustang tanks hold more fuel so they are alittle bigger because of this I made new straps.You also have to do a little cutting and bending of the flange.It's very important to get the filler in the right spot not alot of play in the angle.

69 Mustang tank is what a lot of us use. Install the original vent and filler from the Econo tank into the same location as stock for Econo but on the Mustang tank,then plug off the Mustang fill location and you're good to go. Use the stock Mustang sending unit.

Here's one I did using a 69 Mustang tank. I TIG welded mine but have done several by silver soldering them, which is the way they were originally done.

Does the tank hang down real far in the back with the Mustang tank? My tank is pretty nasty inside, LOTS of chunks falling off the sides. Look great on the outside, but it's falling apart inside. Not sure if I should have it cleaned and get the stuff to coat it or upgrade to the Mustang tank.

The 69 Mustang tank will hang about 2 inches lower than the stock one so you would need longer straps.

For the cost of repair to your old tank, it may me better to start new. Ebay and Mustangs Unlimited sell new tanks with sender.
May be able to find someone close to you with a good used one. Can't ship used ones with fumes.

I bought my '69 Mustang gas tank for $99.79 and the sending unit for $42.79. I bought them from RockAuto.com.

If I knew before hand that there was a cast iron weight above the tank, I would have removed the weight and had a 30 gallon tank made.

The space the weight occupies is needed for the vent so you cant go upward into that area with a bigger tank. The weight has a hollow portion to allow for the vent. There are other tank choices besides the 69. Jim Bulger can comment on the one he used in his.

I had the vent put on the top of my tank and had the inlet relocated to the stock location but the vent doesn't need to be on the top. It can be routed just like it is on the '69 Mustang tank. The tank doesn't know it's in a van. The weight I took out of my van doesn't have a hollow portion. It's as solid as can be. I would still opt for the larger tank.

No. I take my old tank in and they just make a deeper one and keep all the other dimensions the same. Just have to make new straps.
