My God, has anybody seen how dirty this teenaged girl plays the game?

"Both my daughters play travel soccer, one at a very high level, and you would be suprised at how much of this goes on when the play is away from the girls. My oldest has had team mates that grow their nails intentionally long to scratch the opponent, and you see elbows flying to the midsection and cheap shots alot. I believe some clubs teach it because it is more prevelant with certain teams. I have not seen anything to that extreme but my oldest has 2 concussions to prove how rough it can be. But that is just blatant!!"
"I totally agree w/ blackntans. When I was in a traveling soccer club back in high school, we played rough and dirty. I could go into plenty of detail the stuff I got away with all the time. Not as exreme as this chick, but pretty darn close. And we knew how NOT to get carded. I even played traveling softball for one of the top 10 teams in the D.C Metro area at the time, and the girls were just as mean. It's a little harder to play mean and dirty in this sport, but it can be done. Unfortunately for me, I ended up with 8 stitches over my left eye as a lasting momento of my cat fight. I have other multiple injuries from these types of cat fights, and these were part of the factor I didn't play collegiate sports even on full scholarship. And I don't think things have changed much from my days (early 90s) as far as the sportsmanship goes. Believe it or not women atheletes are recruited for their "dirty" play ability. I was a prime example.
I just hope the media doesn't take this too far with her and make her the example."
I played very competitively as well. everyone on our team seved a purpose. we had one guy who could get away with anything. if an opponent did something questionable, our guy was sent on a "mission". if he got the red card, oh well. most of the time he got away with anything though. kids dont usually do this on their own, dont exclude coaches and parents from blame. they get way too into the game. I saw a guy threaten to kick some womans ass at a high school girls hockey game last season. the parents made such a scene in the bleachers play stopped on the ice. I wonder if the kids were embarassed?
