Re: Made a Rat Rod shifter
Hi Steve,
I have a few questions on your shifter.
1st: are you running a 3 SP or an auto trans.?
2nd: what is the approx. location on the floor, is someone still able to sit on the doghouse and it not be in the way?
3rd: if an auto trans., did you make up linkage or are you running a cable?
We have a C-4 auto and I have been thinking of doing a swan stick setup just left front of the doghouse and mounted on the floor under the dash so to have room for someone to sit on the doghouse, without it between their legs. I`m also thinking a cable setup might work best, as it will probably be offset to the trans. lever. Art

I had a 32 Ford that we set up a floor mounted Lokar shifter, an S shaped or swan stick, that I had mounted all the way forward almost to the firewall, under the dash. When it came up and in park, the 8-ball was right next to the dash. It left enough room for someone sitting in the middle. I was thinking of duplicating it for the Econo.... would be different and look pretty kool. Art

Re: Made a Rat Rod shifter
i put that shifter on last fall. i really enjoy it and its popular with the fans. (the locals who know the van.) it is a three speed transmission. i have been pulled over a couple times and the police don't care. actually its like they were carefully trying to avoid noticing it. i can't remember what the steel was from but ithink it was from the deck lid off a 60's impala. one of the torsion springs. it was all cold bent. i made a sling shot out of the other piece and cold bent it too. i sure was sore the next day! tough steel!
