    convertible econoline Empty convertible econoline

Post by Guest Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:04 pm

    hello all..
is it a good idea to chop off the whole roof of an econo van?. its the panel model. a 64.
sometime in the life of this parts hauler an unskilled person tried to put a sunroof out of i dont know what car and just left a big hole in the roof...
i was thinking of chopping it all out. the whole roof and having a convertible van.
the other option is to work something like the VW "ragtop" bugs and buses have.. any ideas are welcomed..
    thanks

They sell sliding rag tops in all sizes. I fonund this one on the web that is 40" x 80". I think it would look alot better than cutting the top completely off.

    here is the link: http://www.slidingragtops.com/15.html?sm=76487

Cuting off the whole roof may be a bigger job than you may think. All the sides would need to be heavly reinforced so the van don't come apart when driving it.

Those ragtops are awesome. I wish they did a slightly bigger one though. The hole in my Econoline left by the old travel wagon conversion is 85" by 43"...!!!

I still haven't figured out how to fill it in yet...!! I guess one of those, with a bit of welding might work.

Well the biggest one they sell is 80" by 40 so you only have to fill 2.5" on each length side and 1.5" on the width side!
