B.W. I'm not sure about the epoxy thing, but there's a local shop here that does soda blasting and the guy that runs it did tell me that the soda leaves a residue on the metal and it won't rust if left out side as quickly as sand blasted metal.

Harbor Freight is selling a soda blasting unit for about $100 (about a ten pound I think) and they have soda in 50# bags for around $35. Sam's Club has soda in 12# bags for around $6. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how much area you can cover per pound of soda.

when i was an apprentice airframe tech, i tried to capture all of the sand residue while i was blasting the inside of a 727 wing. i thought it would be smart to bag in the fuel cell and prevent contaminating the tank. i also bagged around the gun so all i had to do was look through a clear plastic bag and get to work blasting corrosion. surprise turkey! i forgot about the 100psi compressor air. that bagging blew right up in my face about 2 seconds after i pulled the trigger on the blaster. fail geek
