Rich, I got a original air clearer from Digs but it doesn't have the breather from the valve cover. Were you able to purchase it somewhere??

The REAL air cleaner set up on a 6 cylinder has a closed oil filler cap and an elbow that goes into the side of the valve cover through a rubber grommet,,,it also has a spark arrestor in the line and it connects to the top of the carb by a collar,,,,,,,,

Hey Rich, maybe you could test out that mig by welding a 5/8 tube off the side of the riser and hookin up to a breather cap with a vent tube on it? Don , do you think a person would need the spark arrester with a baffled breather cap?

Now that baffled cap was used before this collar set up,,,,,,,you need fresh air in a valve cover,,,,, this set up puts the fumes from the valve cover right in the carb,,,,,if the engine backfires or pops, there is a chance that it could blow back into the valve cover,,,,thats why they put that spark arrestor between the 2 hoses,,,,,,its just a bunch of baffles,,,,,you would use a sealed oil filler cap. A breather type cap just puts the fumes in the doghouse,,,,,,now the V8 has a fresh air hose, usually with the crankcase filter tucked inside the air cleaner, so you got that filter and the air filter blocking any backfire from going down into the valve cover,,,,,,

so if you could find a breather cap with a hose connection on it it would be better to go to the filter housing than the riser. I have a plug in breather with a tube, I didnt notice if they had the twist ins in the catalogue.

Ha ,, I think I'll shut up until I know what Rich has for a valve cover! On all the 6 banger covers I have had you only have the pcv and breather /oil fill hole for openings, never seen a spark arrester on them up close and personal.

I was just wondering if we are talking about building a system for Richies 6 cylinder, your V8 or just talking about the different set ups that are used for the PCV sytems,,,,,,,,

Joe, don't quite follow you on the 5/8 tube thing. I'm up for building a prototype. I have everything sealed off in my van but still have a lot of fumes.

I was thinking one of these in a twist on style ,,but I can't find anything listed,, just push-ins.
    Digz's 65 panel - Page 14 Breath10
then make a fitting on the air cleaner assembly to hook a hose up, but if it doesnt exist ,,it cant happen. I went this way on my V8 for the vent.

Well, most fresh air hoses are like 1" ,,,,,,,,and if you got blowby, nothing but an engine rebuild will get rid of THAT smell,,,,,,,,,

That's on my to do list this winter, just got to make it through the summer. I checked for blowby the way you recommended and it seems to be OK, so maybe she's just plum woreout?? I'll keep looking for the truck setup, maybe I'll get lucky?

A 3rd Gen uses this set up,,,,,,,,,you can buy that orange crankcase fitting, it comes with the retainer, drill a hole in the air cleaner and in the valve cover and put a grommet in it,,,,,,,

That billet Ebay breather is a PCV set up , the one i got is just a baffled breather with a 5/8 hose fitting on it. If you could plumb it to the breather it would do the job. you dont want 2 pcv's. might have to make a hole and do the grommet thing in the rocker cover, if we cant find a twist in to fit the Oil fill hole.

Sorry guys, I wasn't watching this thread lately. Here's a photo of my setup. This engine is a 250 so it was a little newer and came with the breather tube hole in the valve cover. I suppose my air cleaner thingie is from a 2nd Gen too, or a newer pickup, since it has the nipple on it.

    Digz's 65 panel - Page 14 Valvec10

That twist-in breather cap that Digz found looks like the easiest way to go if you don't have the breather tube hole. My previous van didn't and I had bought this push in one. The rubber grommet does fit but it leaves two little openings from the twist-in tabs. I suppose you could put a dab of silicone gasket sealer in them. But this push in cap is also a PVC valve and the hose is much smaller. Would that matter? If you want this I'll gladly send it to you. I've had it too long to return it.

    Digz's 65 panel - Page 14 Valvec11

I'm not too worried about the spark arrestor. I can't find one online. I'll just keep my eyes open in the junk yards for one like Don's.

I have a newer top end with the side breather hole. I can't find the sleeve on top of the carb anywhere online or in the JY. I might drill a hole in the air cleaner and use the 3rd gen setup like the pictures Don posted or weld a setup on the existing sleeve if I can find the parts in the JY to make it. Would have to get a bigger grommet for the valve cover.
