Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
I got the gas tank lining done today. That is quite a time consuming job actually. I had run the cleaner through it yesturday, that was dried out by today, I put some air to it and did a tiny bit of mineral spirit rinse to help that out. Today was the Methyl Ethyl Ketone treatment, nasty stuff BTW, you definately want a super well ventilated area to do that. By the directions I put about 1/2 the quart in and did the first slosh around. I had taped up the openings but some leaked out of course ,, don't bother puting any primer on the tank before you do this step , that stuff peels it right off. Dumped that out best I could and repeated with the second half of the can. Once again dumped that out, you cannot get it all out because the tubes for the vents and fill protrude INTO the tank, but the ketone evaporates pretty fast and you can help it by blowing air into the tank, again be in a well ventilated area. let that dry. I used just 1 quart of sealer, the directions said it might should take 2? for that size tank. I dont think so. more would only make coating the tank faster. and you would end up dumping quite a bit out, which you could save I guess if you had more to do. Anyway by doing the slow back and forth rolling stuff with the tank I noticed it still hadnt covered it all, but it was still very flowing,, this stuff moves SLOW ! From there I sat the tank on saw horses and kept turning it and blocking it in position about every 5-10 minutes to direct the flow in any and every direction I could. At this point I took off all the tape and was keeping track of it with a MagLite until I was pretty sure I had coated the entire thing. I kept this up for more than 2 hours. and it was still moving some, Finally sat it on its bottom and locked the shop up , check it tomorrow.
I'm just wanting to get the suspension/ brakes /mechanical okay on the A for now. I still have some stuff I want to do to my van and the bodywork on the A is gonna be intense when that happens. This puppy has some rust on it that would be right up Wackos alley !!

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
DIGZ WHEN I LINED MY TANK THE TANK NEEDED TO CURE/DRY SO I USED MY SHOP VAC ON BLOW AND RAN IT FOR A DAY. DON'T PUT YOUR FLOTE IN TILL THE TANK IS DRY. SO THE FLOTE DOES NOT STICK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK . I PUT A LITTLE BIT OF GREESE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOTE TO MAKE SURE IT DID NOT STICK. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND YOU WILL BE FINE!!!!

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
I'm in no rush to get the tank back in yet, still stringing a new feul and brake lines and have to make a new hanger bolt up and still get the float fixed. Thought I would try the float off the 66 but that thing crumbled to the touch. Gotta find my solderin stuff if it hasnt been relocated with the rest of the tools that were stolen ,,LOL

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
Proved to myself I'm dumber than I look today. I tried my hand at taking the drum off the front hub today, I havent replaced the Starret hole saw set yet.
First time in my life I have bent a brake drum. Beat it back flat with a mall, but think Im glad I have a parts donor. The really dumb part ,,, I forgot they already had the hubs crossed from side to side so I messed up the one with the right hand threads already on it! One other thing. The short brake line on the drivers side, from the hose to the proportiong valve has 2 different size threaded ends on it, just use an adapter at the proportioning valve? It also looks like the other side may be the same way or more different yet?

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
I made my fuel strap bolt from a carriage bolt. Heated it up and bent it to the shape I needed and ground some of the edge off around the head until it fit the slot in the frame.
I ground the heads off my broken studs from the inside of the drum and drove them out the front with a punch and BFH.

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
Duane is this what you ment when you said the studs were "staked" ?
I put my glasses on for acloser look when I still couldnt get then thru the hub, ended up grinding that flare off and they pop right out with a hammer.
I can see know why the drum came off so hard. and the Hole saw trick would be the ticket.
I did pick up some stainless carriage bolts for the tank but havent gotten a chance to work with them yet. bright side , I got all the new brake lines ran (keeping the frt hoses for the time being) and the bleeders on the frt wheel cyl cracked open without snapping off.

Digz, Do you remember what #s you used for the hinge gromets? I don't know if they are the same as the suburbans. I am almost ready to hang the doors.
Thanks, Lester

Hey Joe, Keep up the work, you are inspiring me to actually work on my Dodge.
My brother in law suggested I let the college kids practice on my brakes. The left side is marked L on the studs. That could be trouble for them.

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
Joe... That's what I meant in your pic of them being 'staked'. Probably not the right term, but what the heck?? When I did the studs on the '68 van someone had swapped a hub from the heavier axle so the studs were a different size. The dorman numbers are 641-1138 (napa) for the heavier hub and 641-1145 for the other one. The knurled part on the one you have out looks like the heavy one to me.

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
I love that truck of yours Dan,, If ya do let them play with the brakes make sure they know the front drums take extra care,,,lol,,,I need to come up with a spring kit for the right front, have a lower retaining spring broke, picked up the studs today , I forgot to check the #s just grabbed the ones that matched from the drawer at the store, (they send me a stack of invoices at the end of the month) I'll dbbl check then. I'm going to leave the lefty's on , I found I could get the left handed lugs for keystones if I go that route. Like I said Dan If you need a hand ,,let me know !

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
Chester go to this site page 55.... suburban rear door seals... I picked up 2 packs from them for my van...They even called to verify I needed to packs since 1 pack does the rear doors on a suburban. I haven't installed yet but have matched them up to the hinges..The tops and bottoms are rounded instead of squared like the ones installed on the front doors.

Re: Digz's new addition, 69 A100 PU
Rusty Red has brakes now! Drove it around the pit some and I don't see any problem with the bigger bore rear wheel cylinders. I'll be putting this on mothballs for a little while I think tho , I need to do some work on the Orange Van in prep for next season, but at least its mobile under its own power and I can bring it back in if I get time to play with it real easy.
