Re: Manual or electric Fuel pump ???
All my 6cyl got manuals, and they work good, but for some reson the 68 with the 307 got a electric?? Not sure if its because they switched from 2 bl to a 4 bl carb??? Not sure if they put it in right??? You have to turn on key and let it pump up, before starting it?? When I get the $$ I would like to go back to stock??

I would say manual also, for the only reason is I have never had to replace one.

Re: Manual or electric Fuel pump ???
there's a manual fuel pump? Like a hand crank pump?
I installed a mechanical pump. Seems to be enough for the 525 carb.
The previous owner had both. The e-pump just behind the tank.
Still puzzles me why.

Re: Manual or electric Fuel pump ???
An old vanner I knew liked the electric fuel pumps as an anti theft device. The concept was that a hidden switch could turn the pump off and is someone swiped your van there would be enough gas in the carb to get it into a public place then die and the thief would run off and leave the van unharmed.

There was a hidden switch under the dash connected to the pump.

Manual.
Especially on Chevy's.
Cheap, easy to replace, dependable.

I would also say manual. Not sure I can remember replacing one because it was bad....

Re: Manual or electric Fuel pump ???
Mechanical fuel pumps are reliable, cheap and easy to replace. They are readily available at the parts store and there is something to be said for keeping your van stock when possible.
Electric fuel pumps are usually only for high performance vehicles that need ALOT of fuel, or if you have a fuel injection EFI conversion.
