    Exhaust Question Empty Exhaust Question

Post by mattimuss Thu Jul 30, 2009 1:52 pm

So, my exhaust system is pretty rusted and I am looking into getting it replaced. Not a problem, but here's my question:

Where on the van should I have the exhaust exit to avoid getting exhaust smell in the van when the back windows are open.
When I drive with the back windows open the inside fills with exhaust smell.

    Thanks!

    Matt

I've got a 108 van and the tailpipe comes out 1/2 way between the filler pipe and the tire. I don't get any fumes with it located there. Maybe you have a leak in the pipe somewhere that is giving you the fumes.

Those rear windows will suck in fumes from everywhere when they are open and you have the front windows open causing a venturi effect,,,,,,you might try opening other windows to relieve the low pressure in the cab to see if you can minimize the smell or try driving with the rear closed and other ones open. They don't call those rear windows the suicide windows for nothing,,,,,,

You might also check the exhaust manifold gaskets and see if they need replacing. Could be leaking there as well.
