neighborhood evacuated my van left to die

Sorry to hear this Steve, hope you make out ok. Was watching the wildfire coverage on the National last night. Visited Kelowna once, it is a beautiful place but has a very strange ecosystem as you mention.
Earlier this year a vanner in Myrtle Beach had a similar fate with fires in every direction from his home but they never got close enough to do any harm.

good news! 4000 people have been allowed to go home including us and the menagerie. our fire crews kicked butt on the fires and our local helicopter crews did a fine job. it was a thrill to see the machines that i work on everyday flying out to fight. i'm a structural technician working mainly on bell helicopters in west kelowna. we mainly work on the 212 412 206ab and 407's but there were kamans and a-stars working the fire too. a big thanks to alpine helicopters, alpine aerotech, wildcat, skyline , eclipse and many other operators. thank you too everyone for your prayers and goodwill it was very encouraging. so we are out of whats left of the woods for now and the 8ball gave the reaper a wedgie and lives on to violate another driveway! peace steve and family
