    Hello everyone,
Can someone please help me with the hand stamped engine code on my 1965 G10 panel. I can not find the suffix code anywhere on the internet and I have looked for hours. This is what I have = F0213NG. F = Flint, Mi. foundry, 0213 = February, 13th, NG (the suffix code) = is what I believe to be the cubic inch displacement and transmission type. The engine was cast on A31 4 = January 31st, 1964. Casting number 3850817 = 230 or 250 c.i.d. This is what I am trying to find out by the stamping suffix info. This information is available on the internet through the GM Chevrolet Chassis and Body Parts Catalog 1946-72 1/2 thru 1 Ton Trucks Series 10-20-30. Maybe someone has this book and can let me know the code, thank you.

Hum - I don't see "NG" for a 1964 code - I do see the following: KS GS N ND NE NK NU NL NM

I do note that the early '65 vans used that casting number before changing to 3877178.

Is your vin a low number (I sent you a PM)?

sometimes the eye sees what is not there.
    Assure a different out come:
plenty of light, very clean, right location, 2nd opinion, use of a 'revealer' spread over the pad location...
Sure U got it right Chipguy?

    aahahahaa
This would B like some1 puttin a sound clip of their exhaust on here for some1 to say something abt their exhaust note (sound).
    It can't be done.
The media gets in the way. Is not a BETTER rep of the object but worse.
I.m sorry. No help. U have no boots on the ground there? All by ur lonesome? When I'm over my head I seek local aid...(for ur make I don;t even no if U look in the right place, what the places are, how many, etc).
I no 50 y/o vehicle can get swapped out so VIN other tags R unreliable. We have 6 i6 motors ina '60 - '96 ford. 3 and a half, 4 - seem identical. We count frost plugs still 3 of them similar. Now water pump bolts bring it dwn to 2. The final is a pad, a lill like ur own, that has 2 cast + ONE stamped (a "Y") tells it (170) from a 200/3.3. That one lill thing. If scratched, worn away indelible - we pull the head...
In Harleys we tell the 883 frm the 1200 by grabbin a spark plug. We turn the motor so the cyl is @ bottom dead center (most space in their). A straw or other measurer is placed thru da spkerlator hole & moved around till as deep in dair as possible. It is then measured and compared to the 2 knowns.

The attached pic shows engine codes for the G Vans, P Vans (step van), and C Pickups.  I realize this does not exactly answer your question, but might be useful.  I also checked the Canadian van engine codes and no luck there either.  Also, went thru Chevy Nova and Chevelle engine codes.  Went so far as to start looking thru 292 cu in, but that would not be the case as the engine is noticeable taller and requires a few mods to correctly fit in out vans.

Will keep thinking about this one - any chance you can take an overall pic of the engine?  Also, is it a manual or auto?

"...for ur make I don;t even no if U look in the right place, what the places are, how many, etc...."
    This might be a start.

2nd would B along the lines where U said "...as the engine is noticeable taller and requires a few mods to correctly fit in..."
Where can he measure? What are the corresponding #s?
As stated above we (the 'falcom motor" or ThriftPower engine) lots of indicators. Know where he can visit?

Here is a picture of the engine. With all of the research that I have done it is either a 230 or a 250 c.i.d. I am just trying to narrow it down. At any case I must have a rare engine with that NG suffix on the stamping. It appears to have everyone baffled even the internet.

According to my inline 6 casting book..

Cast Dates CID Horsepower Main Caps
    3850817 1963 to 1970 230 140 7
    3850817 1967 to 1972 250 110 , 145 , 155 7

You show that your casting date was January 1964, so according to this book it would be a  230.

As far as the 292 goes, the motor mount on the passenger side of the engine is closer to the front of the engine than the drivers side.
