If you use the Search tab at the top of the page and type in belly, you should see threads about belly pans. In fact, here's one where a member made one on his own. Check it out...

Hey donivan65
I am running the mechanical fan on the water pump. Can I get the measurements? I have the brackets but missing the belly pan (‘65).
Thx,

Re: air scoop or belly pan
No i still have the water pump fan but i took a small honda radiator an mounted it under the side doors flat with space between the floor and the radiator !the fan blows up and the outlets face down! the water pump out to the (small radiator) through it to the heater through it and back to the water pump! works pretty good! temp gets over 180 i turn the fan on the small radiator! I'll get over to the van this week end i'll take a picture! I'm thinking to put a Y in the lines because i don't need the heater (no winter driving) the engine warm enough!!!!

Re: air scoop or belly pan
We will dial all this in,,,,,,,you never know what modifications have been done all these years, probably no 2 vans are exactly alike any more,,,,,so I will start,,,,,the 1st Gen bellypans have 5 louvers,,,the 2nd Gens have 6 and that makes them longer,,,,the bellypans have splash shields on the sides that connect them to the crossmember,,,,,looks like the bottom of the 1st gen bellypan is 31 1/4" wide, which is the space between the frame and 26 5/8" long from grille to radiator,,,,,and and a whole bunch of bends and angles that make up the side flanges,,,,I think start with a big piece of cardboard, lay out the bottom and work yourself up the sides,,,,,we will get you those measurements if you need them,,,,,and of course you need a hamburger fan that you control with a ceiling fan twist timer, so you can eat your hamburger in piece without choking on gas fumes in the parking lot,,,,,it blows air through the radiator to cool it and cools the carburetor and pushes the fumes out,,,,,,so here is what my set up looks like,,,,

Re: air scoop or belly pan
doni:2nd generation van had v8s so they needed more louvers and your right no two are the same in my 45 years !I almost bought a 66 like your in 2000! the guy wanted $ 1500 and had 30000 mile on it! it was used to deliver mail to the islands in puget sound!! At that time i had no place to put so i pass on it and the guy who bought it drives it almost every day ! so did you put a v8 in yours? I beef up the 250 six with the clifford research! P S I really think you are a great guy for the hard work you do to help others like me!!!!! revango

Re: air scoop or belly pan
These vans started off with the 153 cu in 4 cylinder engine in 1964,,,,,,then the 6's,,,,194 and 230,,,,
my 65 has the 5 slot grille which means its made up of leftover 1964 parts, it also has 2 latches on the doghouse, the 3 speed trans was non syncro and no front seal on the input shaft, just a slinger,,,,thats why we go after that 66 synchronized 3 speed trans,,,,,,,then in 65, came the heavy duty cooling system,,,,6 slots in the grille that goes nowhere,,,,I have the 250 with HEI distributor in it,,,,,,the 700R4 auto trans with a 350 engine is becoming a pretty common upgrade,,,,,along with the 2nd gen, 1967-70 doghouse with its tunnel,,,,,so you can find lots of modifications on this site,,,,,and we always welcome more,,,,,,parts are always getting harder to find and it doesnt hurt to try and make your van more dependable, safer and comfortable......

Re: air scoop or belly pan
Yea i tell people they were made for big city delivery's so there about the same wheel base as a nova! In 75 a buddy of my brother had a 69 long bed 4 on the tree one ton!? I found a stock two speed power glide the junk yard and put it in! I bought a chevelle that was shot for the 327 engine to put in but a buddy said it would through the front end out and corvetts started with a six in 54 so i got the biggest cam i could get headers and a 4 barrel carb in 1984! i use a pulley system for the throttle for the carb using bicycle cable! i know i had to move the linkage a little and the shifter at the bottom of the column when i put the two speed in!

Yea: the sway bar is nice and the air bags! I had a welder put a hitch on to tow a 16 foot trailer and i use air shocks (no air bags in 80s)

Re: air scoop or belly pan
Thats also where we mount the condenser when we install A/C....But tell us the story behind your set up,,,,,Did you have an overheating problem,,,,,does that take the place of your original radiator,,,,,,,,we dont worry unless temp goes over 220,,,,,,,how many rows of tubes in your radiator,,,,is it clean,,,,,,,is not having a bellypan the source of your problem,,,,,,I have a 3 row of tubes radiator and have no problems when its over 100 degrees down here......

Re: air scoop or belly pan
Yea i notice if i went on the freeway it would run 200 temp but when i got off and did stop and go city driving it wouldn't cool down and almost boil over! so me being more handy than hansom install that and the problem went away! All you need is the little bit more air flow to cool the water down! most of the time i don't need to turn the fan on! only from 70 mph down to 25 on a hot day! A buddy though it was good enough to do the same for a tranny cooler when he tows his trailer!
